Opvallend bandenexperiment keert terug in Monza

Aankomend weekend staat de Italiaanse Grand Prix op het circuit van Monza weer op het programma. Vooralsnog lijkt het er op dat het droog blijft tijdens het raceweekend. Dat komt goed uit, want bandeleverancier Pirelli voert dit weekend weer een bijzondere test uit. De coureurs krijgen wederom te maken met de alternative tyre allocation.

In navolging van de Hongaarse Grand Prix, wordt er weer geëxperimenteerd met deze zogenaamde alternative tyre allocation. Bij deze test moeten de coureurs verplichte bandencompounds gebruiken tijdens de kwalificatie. In de eerste kwalificatiesessie moeten de coureurs verplicht rijden met de hards, in de tweede kwalificatiesessie moeten de coureurs rijden met de mediums en in de derde en laatste kwalificatiesessie mogen ze dan rijden met de softs.

Als onderdeel van dit experiment heeft elke coureur slechts de beschikking over elf setjes slicks. Bandenleverancier Pirelli heeft er wel voor gekozen om de zachtste compounds te selecteren voor het raceweekend in Monza. De C3 fungeert dit weekend als de harde band, de C4 fungeert als de medium band en de C5 is dit weekend de zachte band. Pirelli blijft daarnaast nog eventjes hangen op het circuit van Monza. Op de dinsdag en woensdag na de race zullen de teams van Alpine en Red Bull Racing gaan testen met nieuwe banden voor 2024.

  Ik vind die verplichte bandenkeuze ook helemaal ruk, laat die gasten het maar lekker zelf uitvogelen welke band het best bij hun auto past op het moment zelf.

  Nu Pirelli van de F1 opdracht heeft gekregen om de 2024 banden (zonder bandenwarmers!) over het hek te gooien en opnieuw banden voor 2024 (mét bandenwarmers) te ontwikkelen zullen ze alles opnieuw moeten berekenen, ontwikkelen en testen.
  Dit geouwehoer en geëxperimenteer zal dus nog wel even aanhouden.

  @Evert, waar jij het over hebt heeft helemaal niets met dit kwalificatie format te maken!!
  Door dit H - M - S in de kwali krijgen de teams maar 11 setjes banden.

  @schwantz: en waar denk je dat ze dan op uitkomen? dat is toch altijd de soft dan in kwalificatie? met het idee zelf is weinig mis, al lijkt het mij handiger om dit te bewaren voor de sprintkwalificatie's.
  11 setjes banden is overigens meer dan genoeg op Monza.
