Polesitter Sainz trots: "Ik heb kippenvel"

Carlos Sainz liet de Tifosi in Monza juichen. De Spaanse Ferrari-coureur noteerde in een razendspannende kwalificatie de snelste tijd en mag de race van morgen dus vanaf de pole position starten. Na afloop van de kwalificatie overheerste er een gevoel van trots bij Sainz.

Sainz is bezig met een zeer sterk weekend in Monza. De Spanjaard was de snelste in twee van de drie vrije trainingen en ook in de kwalificatie maakte hij veel indruk. Sainz moest nog wel eventjes vrezen voor een straf. Na afloop van Q1 werd bekend dat hij en zijn Ferrari-teamgenoot Charles Leclerc mogelijk te langzaam hadden gereden tijdens hun outlap. Vlak na de kwalificatie maakten de stewards echter bekend dat er geen straf volgt.

Kippenvel

Sainz straalde als een ster na afloop van de kwalificatie. De pole position doet hem goed en de aanwezige fans zongen hem toe. In gesprek met interviewer van dienst Davide Valsecchi sprak hij zich uit: "Dit was een enorm intense kwalificatie. We bevonden ons op de limiet en tijdens dat laatste rondje wist ik dat het mogelijk was. Toen ik daarna over de finish kwam had ik echt kippenvel toen ik naar het publiek keek."

Verstappen

De aanwezige fans in Monza maken er al het hele weekend een enorm feestje van en dat zorgt voor trots bij Ferrari. Ook Sainz deelt zijn complimenten: "Overal waar je gaat maken ze herrie, dat geeft vertrouwen en is het beste gevoel dat je als atleet kan hebben. Morgen ga ik dan ook alles geven voor de winst. Laten we eens gaan kijken of we Max kunnen uitdagen. Normaal gesproken is hij snel in de longruns, maar ik ga alles geven."

Knap gedaan van Sainz. Nu maar hopen dat hij niet teveel race snelheid heeft opgeofferd voor de kwalificatie.

  Ik vermoed van wel. Ze komen er de laatste tijd niet echt aan te pas en dan hier ineens zo rap? Het zou volgens mij niet de eerste keer zijn dat Ferrari dit doet in eigen huis. Ik gun het Sainz echter van harte. Toch hoop ik dat Max wint, want ik vind het mooier als dat record eraan gaat.

  Cyril@ het is ook wel verleidelijk voor een team als Ferrari dat na 3 a 4 races door heeft dat de auto gemiddeld niet heel top gaat... om dan een low drag spec te gaan bouwen voor Monza.
  
  En in Baku gingen ze natuurlijk ook prima.

  Het zou leuk zijn om een spannende race te krijgen, dus daar hoop ik op. Toch verwacht ik dat Ferrari morgen door het ijs zakt, maar laat me graag verassen.

Schitterend hoe die Italianen juichen voor een team ipv een coureur.

Daarnaast is Sainz natuurlijk nog steeds een McLaren amigo dus dat helpt.

Ik hoop dat ie m morgen wint, 2020 was al close natuurlijk.

  Ik gun de fans en coureurs van Ferrari winst op Monza. Mocht dat samenvallen met een uitvalbeurt van Verstappen: couldnt care less.

  Dat gaat wel een kansloos verhaal worden. Longrun is hopeloos vergeleken met RB. En zolang die engineers er zitten zullen ze ook niets meer winnen. Daar moet echt eerst een veegwagen doorheen.
