Albon verwacht mindere periode en wijst naar Las Vegas

Het team van Williams is bezig met een redelijk seizoen in de Formule 1. De Britse renstal komt steeds beter voor de dag en Alexander Albon is regelmatig pijlsnel. Toch vreest de Thaise Williams-coureur dat hij in de aankomende races minder goed voor de dag gaat komen. Hij verwacht pas in Las Vegas weer te kunnen schitteren.

Albon is bezig met een redelijk sterk seizoen in de Formule 1. De Thaise Brit is veel sneller dan zijn teamgenoot Logan Sargeant en hij heeft tot nu toe 21 punten bij elkaar gereden. Albon staat op de dertiende plaats in het wereldkampioenschap, aangezien Sargeant nog geen enkel WK-punt heeft gescoord, staat Williams ook nog maar op 21 punten. De Britse renstal staat hierdoor op de zevende plaats in het constructeurskampioenschap.

Albon finishte afgelopen weekend in Monza als zevende en het was zeker niet de eerste keer dat hij veel indruk maakte in het huidige seizoen. Albon verwacht echter wel dat Williams het zwaar gaat krijgen in de aankomende races. In gesprek met Motorsport.com legt Albon het uit: "Ik maak mij vooral zorgen om races op banen zoals in Brazilië. Ik hoop vooral dat wij er nu iets beter voorstaan. Dit resultaat in Monza was wel nodig aangezien ik niet verwacht dat we tot aan Las Vegas weer dit soort kansen gaan krijgen. Ik bedoel niet dat ik minder snel zal gaan, maar deze punten waren wel nodig."

  Sinds Montreal gaat het een stuk beter. Het resultaat in Nederland is daar het bewijs van, ondanks dat de wind het tempo van de FW45 daar nog wat liet tegenvallen.
  
  Op de vraag of Albon verwacht dat het op banen als Singapore, Japan en Qatar minder pijnlijk wordt, antwoordt hij.
  "Zeker weten. Je kunt onze zwakheden nog zien, maar we staan er beter voor dan vorig jaar.
  Het is wel zo dat wanneer een circuit heet wordt en de bandenslijtage hoog is, we beginnen te worstelen. In deze race [in Italië] hadden we het lastig en juist dit circuit zou ons moeten liggen. Ik denk dat als het twintig graden koeler was geweest, we een ook stuk rapper waren.
  Er ligt nog wel werk op de plank. We gaan nu naar Azië en Amerika, waar het ook heet kan zijn."
