Renault CEO ontkent verkoopgeruchten Alpine: "Bullshit!"

Het team van Alpine is bezig met een zeer tegenvallend seizoen in de Formule 1. De Franse renstal staat slechts zesde in het constructeurskampioenschap en recent werden er al meerdere kopstukken ontslagen. Geruchten over een mogelijk verkoop van het team zijn volgens Renault CEO Luca de Meo grote onzin.

Alpine wilde dit seizoen de top van het veld aanvallen, maar dat plannetje is nu al mislukt. Ze staan op de zesde plaats in het constructeurskampioenschap met 73 punten. Het verschil met nummer vijf McLaren is fors en de voorsprong op nummer zeven Williams is ook zeer groot. Alpine bevindt zich in een soort niemandsland en na het ontslag van teambaas Otmar Szafnauer en Alan Permane, gingen er echter geruchten rond over een mogelijke verkoop van het team.

Alpine-eigenaar Renault zou immers niet tevreden zijn met de huidige prestaties. Renault CEO Luca de Meo wil hier echter niet aandenken. In gesprek met de Italiaanse tak van Motorsport.com is De Meo fel: "We moeten ons nu stukje voor stukje gaan herpakken. Al die verhalen over een mogelijke verkoop zijn dan ook bullshit. De Formule 1 is onderdeel van het Alpine-project, net als de enduranceracerij en andere klassen. We zetten langzaam stapjes en we moeten nog groeien. Ik geloof heel erg veel in het Alpine-project in de Formule 1."

Bullshit, we hebben immers net een goudvis aan de haak geslagen waarvanaf we kunnen parasiteren, euh, een synergetische samenwerking mee zijn aangegaan.

Ik geloof best dat Alpine kleine stapjes zet, maar die gaan wel de verkeerde kant op.
Vooralsnog raken ze alleen maar verder achterop ten opzichte van de top, in plaats dat ze de top benaderen. Oftewel, er zal flink wat aangepast moeten worden in de hele Alpine/Renault organisatie, of ze moeten accepteren dat ze nooit verder komen als een leuk middenmoter team. Of als ze niet oppassen eindigen ze als veldvulling...
Ze moeten in ieder geval snel een tweede team van motoren gaan voorzien. Want die extra mileage en data is essentieel om een sterke motor te ontwikkelen. Anders lopen ze ook daar achter op de concurrentie. Voor 2026 is dat dus cruciaal en het zou zelfs financieel aantrekkelijk zijn als ze een team als Williams gratis van motoren zouden voorzien (zolang Andretti nog geen toestemming heeft).
