Palou geeft duidelijkheid: "Ik ga niet naar een Formule 1-race"

Alex Palou speelt dit seizoen een hoofdrol op het internationale autosport-toneel. De Spanjaard kroonde zich tot de nieuwe IndyCar-kampioen, maar hij speelde wel weer de hoofdrol in een enorme rel. Hij verscheurde immers zijn McLaren-contract voor 2024. Hij bevestigt nu dat hij dit seizoen niet aanwezig zal zijn bij Formule 1-weekenden.

Palou fungeerde dit seizoen ook als reservecoureur van het Formule 1-team van McLaren. Het was de bedoeling dat hij buiten de IndyCar-races om aanwezig zou zijn bij de Grand Prix-weekenden. Vorige maand verscheurde hij dus zijn contract bij McLaren en daarmee beëindigde hij ook zijn reserverol. McLaren CEO Zak Brown liet al weten dat hij Palou niet in Singapore verwacht, maar dat er wel een hotelkamer voor hem is geboekt.

Los Angeles

Palou gaf na afloop van de laatste race van het IndyCar-seizoen aan dat Brown gelijk heeft. De Spanjaard slaat het Formule 1-seizoen over, zo laat hij aan The Race weten: "Ja, dat klopt. Dat komt ten eerste doordat ik kampioen ben geworden en ik naar Los Angeles moet gaan voor de prijsuitreiking. Daarnaast moeten we ook gaan testen met de auto voor 2024. De plannen zijn dus aangepast, ik ga niet naar een Formule 1-race."

Geen problemen

Palou geeft ook aan dat hij sinds zijn keuze niet meer heeft gesproken met Brown. De Spanjaard laat wel weten dat ze geen ruzie hebben: "Ja, we hebben elkaar nog niet gesproken. Ik denk dat er niets te bespreken valt wat het voor hem of mij beter gaat maken. Ik heb geen problemen met hem. Als ik hem zie, dat ga ik niet naar de andere kant kijken. Momenteel is er niets waar we over moeten praten."

      Geef mij maar gewoon de tv.leuk om 1 keer te doen,maar je kan het niet goed volgen.ik ben van de cijfertjes en tijden.niet van het ´vroem´.of 2 seconden een wagen langs zien rijden met 300 kilometer per uur,ik wil data.

    Het zou toch leuk zijn om een keer een Indy-coureur weer in de F1 te zien. Het lijkt er echter op dat op de momenten dat er een zitje beschikbaar is, er geen Indycoureur beschikbaar is en op het moment dat een Indycoureur de mogelijkheid heeft de overstap te maken er geen zitje beschikbaar is, of enkel zitjes die ze niet interessant vinden.

    Wel een beetje een amateuristisch gedoe daar bij McLaren. Niet even contact met elkaar opnemen maar voor de zekerheid wel een kamer voor Palou reserveren met de gedachte "we zullen wel zien of hij verschijnt".

      Valt wel mee @da_bartman, in een eventuele rechtszaak kan McLaren daarmee aantonen dat zij zich wel aan de afspraken in het contract hebben gehouden...

      dat ze de kamer geboekt hebben, heeft gewoon met de rechtszaak te maken, zo van kijk hij wil opeens niet meer, maar wij rekenen nog gewoon op hem, we hebben een kamer geboekt, wij houden ons nog netjes aan de afspraken die we met elkaar overeen gekomen zijn.

      Ze weten sowieso dat hij niet in Singapore kan verschijnen aangezien hij dat weekend de WK trofee in ontvangst gaat nemen en dat is in Los Angeles.

      Haha, wijsneus. Ik heb het artikel hierboven praktisch niet gelezen. Ik had het vanmorgen vroeg hier gelezen:
      Asked by The Race if he could confirm if Brown was right and he wouldn’t be at the grand prix, Palou replied: “Yeah. First of all, it’s because I can’t, just because of the championship [win] and we’re going to LA now [for the end of season prizegiving next Sunday] and then we have some testing for the ’24 car [in IndyCar].

      Daar stond trouwens ook dat Zak het grappig bedoelde. Het is logisch, want die hotelkamers worden maanden van tevoren geboekt.

      Niet brutaal worden hè. Wat serieuzer, ik dacht trouwens dat ik ook alleen maar de laatste alinea las, maar in werkelijkheid lees ik steeds de stukjes die met aanhalingstekens beginnen, die staan (bij een wat langer artikel) soms ook al in de één na laatste alinea...

      Hahaha, dat doe ik dus ook. Even heel vluchtig kijken of er ergens aanhalingstekens staan, zonder eerst de tekst te lezen.
      Meestal staan die in de laatste alinea en heel soms in de één na laatste alinea.
