Vettel geeft toe dat comeback Schumacher moeilijk wordt

Het begint er steeds meer op te lijken dat Mick Schumacher ook in 2024 aan de zijlijn staat. De jonge Duitser fungeert momenteel als reservecoureur bij het team van Mercedes en er zijn nog maar weinig racestoeltjes over voor 2024. Ook Sebastian Vettel geeft nu toe dat het een lastig verhaal wordt voor Schumacher.

Schumacher kreeg eind vorig jaar geen nieuw contract bij Haas. Hij zat een aantal weken zonder contract voor 2023, maar het team van Mercedes pikte hem op voor een reserverol. De Duitser reed een aantal demoruns en hij mocht eerder dit jaar een bandentest uitvoeren in de huidige bolide. Schumacher wil graag terugkeren op de grid in 2024, maar die kans is zeer klein. Hij is immers niet in beeld voor de vrije zitjes bij Williams, AlphaTauri en Alfa Romeo.

Moeilijk

Ook Schumachers goede vriend Sebastian Vettel denkt dat het een moeilijk verhaal gaat worden. De Duitse viervoudig wereldkampioen reed dit weekend een aantal demoruns op de Nürburgring en daar sprak hij met zijn landgenoten van Sky Sports over de situatie van Schumacher: "Er is momenteel misschien één stoeltje echt beschikbaar. Het is heel moeilijk om terug te keren, maar er zijn altijd kansen."

Duitsland

Vettel adviseert zijn jonge landgenoot wel om gewoon door te gaan met zijn werkzaamheden. Volgens Vettel is dat het beste wat Schumacher op het moment kan doen: "Ik denk dat het belangrijk is voor Mick dat de dingen gewoon op dezelfde manier door blijven gaan. Hij moet door blijven gaan voor zijn tweede kans. Vanuit een Duits perspectief is het belangrijk omdat hij niet alleen ons grootste talent is, maar ook ons enige grote talent."

Ik zie Vettel eerder een comeback maken dat Mick, maar ik zou hoe dan ook best eens willen zien of Mick gegroeid is. Een jaartje lang de zijlijn kan soms wonderen verrichten.

  Daar worden ze alleen maar slechter van. Ze moeten blijven racen zolang ze jong zijn. Alonso die stopte of Hulkenberg maakt niet veel uit. Die hebben hun racekunde al lang in hun ruggen merg opgeslagen. Ik zeg ruggemerg, maar zou niet weten waar een mens automatismes opslaat.
  Die jonkies hebben op jonge leeftijd veel meer vermogen om veel te leren en die automatismes op te doen. Hoe langer ze stil staan, hoe lager hun top wordt.

Wat Mick goed kan is veel schade rijden, en hij is ook gewoon niet goed genoeg.

Strik erom heen, en ga lekker racen in een andere klasse, neem Lance ook even mee.
