Wolff legt lange contractonderhandelingen Hamilton uit: "Dat is meestal lastig"

Twee weken geleden werd bekend dat Lewis Hamilton een nieuw contract bij Mercedes heeft getekend. De Britse zevenvoudig wereldkampioen staat nu tot en met 2025 onder contract bij het team. De onderhandelingen duurden zeer lang, teambaas Toto Wolff legt nu uit waardoor dat kwam.

Hamiltons contract bij Mercedes liep eigenlijk dit jaar af. Maandenlang ging het over de mogelijke contractverlenging van de Britse zevenvoudig wereldkampioen. Hamilton en Mercedes lieten allebei weten dat ze het contract graag wilden verlengen, maar het bleef lang stil. Ondertussen gingen er geruchten rond over een mogelijke overstap van Hamilton naar Mercedes. In Monza kwamen deze verhalen ten einde toen het grote nieuws naar buitenkwam.

Andere kant van de wereld

In Singapore reageerde Mercedes-teambaas Toto Wolff voor het eerst op de contractverlenging van Hamilton. Wolff legde daar aan de internationale media uit waarom het zo lang duurde: "De onderhandelingen met Lewis gaan altijd iets anders omdat we praten met elkaar en daarna verdwijnen we allebei naar de andere kant van de wereld. We hadden voor de zomer de belangrijkste zaken rond en daarna moet je het met de advocaten gaan bespreken. Dat is meestal wat lastiger."

Competitief persoon

Wolff had op geen enkel moment het idee dat de deal zou klappen. De Oostenrijkse teambaas wist dat het goed zou komen en dat Hamilton niet weg wilde gaan: "Lewis is een enorm competitief persoon. Hij heeft een goed commercieel brein. Nu bevindt zich nu in de laatste fase van zijn loopbaan. Dan zijn er gewoon andere dingen die je moet bespreken. Hij wilde bij ons blijven en wij wilden dat natuurlijk ook. Er was geen reden tot vertrek. We werkten altijd aan een overeenkomst."

Komt omdat onze "koningin" een hoop noten op zijn zang heeft: Ik wil met mijn matties jammen, met mijn "gang" chillen en dat Mercedes in zwart rijdt. Ook moeten jullie diversiteit op nr 1. zetten. Oja mijn vrouwlijk PA heb ik net ontslagen...

Nou, gelukkig hebben ze dat met op tijd verijdeld..... Lewis naar Mercedes, je moet er toch niet aan denken zeker.
