Wolff wil Schumacher ook bij WEC-zitje behouden als reservecoureur

De kans is groot dat Mick Schumacher volgend jaar weer in actie komt in een wereldkampioenschap. De Duitser wordt in verband gebracht met een stoeltje bij het WEC-team van Alpine. Mercedes-teambaas Toto Wolff hoopt dat Schumacher die rol kan blijven combineren met zijn rol als reservecoureur bij de Duitse renstal.

Schumacher is sinds dit seizoen de reservecoureur van het team van Mercedes in de Formule 1. De Duitser is vrijwel elk raceweekend aanwezig op de circuits. Schumacher kreeg eerder dit jaar een kans om in actie te komen met de huidige Mercedes-bolide, hij mocht namelijk een bandentest uitvoeren. Daarnaast werkte hij ook een speciale testdag af voor het team van McLaren.

De kans is nu groot dat Schumacher volgend seizoen in het World Endurance Championship gaat rijden. Hij wordt namelijk in verband gebracht met een stoeltje bij het Hypercar-project van Alpine. Mercedes-teambaas Toto Wolff laat aan Bild weten dat Schumacher dan nog steeds reservecoureur kan zijn van de Duitse renstal: "Als hij een stoeltje kan vinden bij een andere fabrikant in het WEC of ergens anders in de sportcars, dan is hij hier altijd welkom. Wat voor programma hij ook afwerkt, hij kan altijd bij ons blijven als reservecoureur. Als zijn andere werkgever dat tenminste ook goed vindt."

Ik vraag me af waarom Merc niet in het WEC zit. Dat is toch een prachtige klasse waar veel merken in actief zijn. Daar moet je als Mercedes toch bij willen zijn? Ze hebben natuurlijk wat pijnlijke historie, maar dat hoeft zich niet te herhalen.

Ik denk dat het voor een coureur als Mick een mooie klasse is.

Gelijk heeft Wolff, why not? Als je toch niet meedoet voor de hoofdprijzen maakt het ook niet uit. Bedoel, waarom zou je uitsloven voor Wikipedia?
