Krack heeft lage verwachtingen: "Blij met één auto in top vijf"

Het team van Aston Martin begon goed aan de huidige seizoen, maar in de afgelopen races zakten de resultaten een beetje in. De verwachtingen van de Britse renstal zijn veel minder groot dan voorheen. Teambaas Mike Krack laat weten dat hij al tevreden is als er één Aston Martin in de top vijf finisht in Japan.

De eerste dag van het Japanse raceweekend verliep redelijk voor Aston Martin. Fernando Alonso noteerde in beide vrije trainingen de zesde tijd en Lance Stroll noteerde de tiende en de elfde tijd. Het verschil met de top van het veld was echter vrij fors en het is dan ook nog maar de vraag hoe Alonso en Stroll voor de dag gaan komen in de kwalificatie. Teambaas Mike Krack heeft niet al te hoge verwachtingen.

Vertrouwen

Na afloop van de tweede vrije training keek Krack terug op de sessies. De teambaas wilde niet te vroeg juichen en hij stelde in gesprek met Sky Sports dat ze de situatie rustig blijven bekijken: "Het was een normale sessie voor ons. We probeerden de tests te minimaliseren omdat de coureurs veel tijd nodig hebben om in hun ritme te komen. Maar het ging goed. We vertrouwen er op dat we vanaf dit punt stappen kunnen zetten. De auto was goed en de coureurs waren tevreden."

Voorspelling

Ondanks dat Krack dus redelijk positief is over de resultaten van de eerste twee vrije trainingen, zijn zijn verwachtingen niet al te hoog. Hij blijft nogal terughoudend met zijn voorspellingen: "Het zou een geweldig resultaat zijn als we met beide auto's Q3 kunnen bereiken, al helemaal als je kijkt naar de resultaten van de eerdere races. Het zou een droom zijn als we hier tenminste één auto in de top vijf kunnen krijgen."

Pfff....het was aan het begin van het seizoen al duidelijk dat AM het tempo waarmee de wagen wordt ontwikkeld niet zou kunnen bijhouden. Zie hier het resultaat

  Begin van het seizoen was dat toch de algemene opinie. Althans mogelijk waren er twee stromingen. Ene dacht dat AM Red Bull zou uitdagen.
  Andere stroming had de mening dat met met 'geleende' tech, ze imiteerden delen van andere auto's, nooit konden begrijpen hoe het concept in elkaar stak.
  
  Ik ben zelf blij dat er 2 teams waren die overgingen nu al naar een nieuwe visie en daarmee dit seizoen daar aan zouden opofferen. Dat zijn Ferrari en Mercedes. Mogelijk kunnen ze een flinke sprong maken begin 2024, hun nieuwe concept begrijpen, dan het gat dichten met goed updat beleid.
  Volgend jaar wordt interessant.

  Daar hebt je zeker gelijk in. Sommige leden vroegen zich destijds hardop af of het door ontwikkelen van de wagen niet de achilleshiel was van het team. De 'wederopstanding' van Alonso is helaas van korte duur.
