Sainz paste set-up vlak voor start kwalificatie: "Invloed op mijn weekend"

Na twee pole positions op rij reed Carlos Sainz vandaag slechts de zesde tijd. De Spaanse Ferrari-coureur realiseerde zich dat zijn team niet snel genoeg zou zijn in Japan. Om toch nog tot een resultaat te komen, paste Sainz zijn set-up aan. Hij heeft geen spijt van deze ingrijpende keuze.

Het team van Ferrari heeft het overduidelijk zwaar op het circuit van Suzuka. Ze zijn het derde team achter Red Bull Racing en McLaren. Sainz verkeert in goede vorm en hij barst dan ook van het zelfvertrouwen. In Japan besloot hij daarom om zijn set-up aan te passen voorafgaand de kwalificatie. Het zorgde ervoor dat hij weer eventjes moest wennen aan zijn bolide, de zesde tijd was daarvan het eindresultaat.

Zwaktes

Sainz geeft na afloop van de kwalificatie toe dat hij de gevolgen van zijn keuzes zag aankomen. De Spanjaard heeft echter geen spijt, zo laat hij weten aan Motorsport.com: "We wisten voor dit weekend al dat deze baan onze zwaktes zou blootleggen. Met deze snelle karakteristieken, lange bochten en vandaag ook nog wind, zou het niet makkelijk worden. Ik heb vanochtend besloten om andere dingen uit te proberen op de auto. Ik heb de balans een beetje aangepast en datzelfde geldt voor de set-up."

Invloed

De aanpassingen zorgden echter niet voor het gewenste resultaat. Sainz besloot hierdoor om nog een keer zijn set-up aan te passen. Het was niet handig, maar Sainz is niet teleurgesteld: "Toen de kwalificatie begon zag ik dat mijn set-up niet werkte en we besloten daarom terug te gaan naar een soort basis set-up. Dat heeft waarschijnlijk invloed gehad op mijn kwalificatievoorbereiding en mijn weekend in het algemeen."

  @Harry Je kan een bull over Sainz zeggen, maar het is zeker geen type wat zichzelf schouderklopjes geeft en daarnaast ook nog eens een keiharde werkert.

  @schwantz34 Ach... alle rijders klagen over van alles en nog wat als het niet gaat zoals ze willen. Carlos doet het alleen soms een beetje extra.
  
  Afgelopen week zei hij zoiets dat hij vanaf het begin van het jaar 1 was met de auto, maar hij klaagde in Bahrain en had zijn slechtste eerste halve seizoen bij Ferrari. Nu is hij eindelijk een beetje tot bloei gekomen nu de Hamilton geruchten definitief voorbij zijn.
  
  Kort gezegd, hij kan soms een beetje overdrijven ;)

  Sainz sr. vond de wagen prima, want zoonlief houd van overstuur, hij raadde Ferrari aan niets te veranderen.
  Zodra Leclerc wat meer vertrouwen krijgt, word Carlos benadeeld.

  Ik heb het idee, dat op het moment dat het Leclerc een beetje tegenzit, Sainz met de grote hand van pa in de rug zich ineens helemaal het mannetje voelt. En dan doet hij het ook helemaal niet slecht, zelfs best goed.
  Tot het moment dat Leclerc rustig uitgedokterd heeft wat er anders moet en dat toepast. Dan blijkt dat Leclerc toch gewoon de snellere man is en krijgt Sainz weer een deukje.
  Als we het over zelfvertrouwen hebben is Leclerc veel sterker dan Sainz. Leclerc kijkt niet naar Sainz, hij kijkt naar zijn eigen probleem en doet daar wat aan. Je hoort hem ook amper terwijl Carlos toch de neiging heeft in een jubelstemming terecht te komen zodra het even goed gaat. Maar daar zal pa ook wel een behoorlijk aandeel in hebben.

  Sainz is, onder invloed van sr., vooral bezig met Leclerc.
  Leclerc is vooral bezig met zijn eigen rijden en hoe aanpassingen te maken.
  Zodra het Sainz iets minder gaat, hoor je Sr. insinuaties maken
  Je hebt het dus imho bij het rechte eind.

  @Cherokee Leclerc is bij zijn komst naar Ferrari vergeten de leiderschapsrol op zich te nemen.
  Kan te maken hebben met de situatie waarin hij binnenkwam bij Ferrari, met Vettel en de erfenis van Raikkonen, maar Leclerc heeft de ruimte vergeten in te nemen, en nu pakt Sainz het stokje soms gewoon beet, en trekt de aandacht in het team naar zich toe.
  Heel logisch m.i.. Hij wordt populairder en dat heb je toch nodig om je mensen een extra stapje voor je te laten doen.
