Tsunoda vrees Qatarese kerbstones: "Dat zal kostbaar zijn"

Voor de tweede keer in de geschiedenis van de Formule 1 wordt dit weekend de Qatarese Grand Prix verreden. Het circuit van Losail zorgde in 2021 al voor veel problemen en ook nu zijn er zorgen. AlphaTauri-coureur Yuki Tsunoda wijst naar de kerbstones die volgens hem te agressief zijn.

De organisatie van de Grand Prix van Qatar heeft een aantal veranderingen doorgevoerd aan het circuit. Niet alleen de faciliteiten in de paddock zijn aangepakt, ook op het circuit zelf zijn een aantal dingen aangepast. Men heeft er bijvoorbeeld voor gekozen om de kerbstones aan te passen. In 2021 zorgde deze delen al voor veel lekke banden en ook nu is het weer een punt van kritiek.

Vloervernietigers

AlphaTauri-coureur Yuki Tsunoda heeft de zaak bekeken en hij denkt dat de kerbs voor veel problemen gaan zorgen. Hij omschrijft het in gesprek met Motorsport.com als vloervernietigers: "Het lijkt erop dat ze op agressieve kerbstones zijn overgestapt. Je zit hier altijd met de track limits, maar ze hebben de kerbs nog erger gemaakt want als je over de witte lijn gaat, krijg je hier een behoorlijke straf."

Engineers

Tsunoda heeft de verwachte problemen met zijn team besproken. De Japanner stelt dan ook dat hij niet de enige is die zich hier zorgen over maakt. Hij laat namelijk weten dat ook de engineers zich zorgen maken: "Het is een grote stap tussen de kerbs en de uitloopzones. Over de kerbs rijden wordt geen probleem, maar als je er net overheen gaat, dan krijg je een volledig glijeffect. Het is absoluut niet egaal en met zulke snelle bochten en een auto die heel laag ligt, wordt het moeilijk. Zelfs één keer te ver gaan, zal kostbaar zijn."
