Stewards gaan weer ingrijpen bij te langzame rondetijden

De stewards zullen er vandaag tijdens de kwalificatie en morgen tijdens de Sprint Shootout alles aan gaan doen om verkeer te voorkomen. Wederom wordt er streng gecontroleerd op het hinderen en blokkeren van andere coureurs en op het te langzaam rijden waardoor er onveilige situaties ontstaan.

In de afgelopen weken ging het veelvuldig om het hinderen van andere coureurs. Tijdens outlaps en inlaps rijden coureurs immers vrij langzaam over de baan en dat kan voor gevaarlijke situaties zorgen als er snellere auto's aankomen. Na meerdere klachten en onduidelijk momenten, besloot wedstrijdleider Niels Wittich in te grijpen. In Italië werd daar voor het eerst mee gewerkt, ook in Qatar is dit weer het geval.

Uit de event notes van Wittich blijkt namelijk dat er op het Losail Circuit zal worden ingegrepen als coureurs te langzaam gaan rijden. Net als eerder onder meer in Italië gebeurde, worden coureurs naar de stewards gestuurd als ze langzamer gaan rijden dan de maximale rondetijd. Deze rondetijd is na afloop van de eerste en enige vrije training naar de teams gecommuniceerd. Net als eerder dit jaar gelden deze regels voor alle rondetijden die worden genoteerd tijdens de kwalificatie en tijdens de Sprint Shootout van de dag van morgen.
