Coureurs wennen aan aangepaste baan tijdens extra minitraining

Voorafgaand de Sprint Shootout kregen de coureurs zojuist de kans om te wennen aan de aangepaste baan in Qatar. Vrijwel alle coureurs gingen de baan op om te wennen aan de nieuwe delen van het circuit. Deze veranderingen werden doorgevoerd nadat bandenleverancier Pirelli problemen had ontdekt.

In de bochten 12 en 13 zijn de track limits aangepast zodat de coureurs niet meer in de buurt hoeven te komen van de gewraakte kerbstones. De baan is hierdoor krapper geworden en dat betekent dat de coureurs hieraan moeten wennen. Deze sessie is hiervoor dus speciaal in het leven geroepen door de FIA.

Alle coureurs kwamen hiervoor de baan op om te kijken wat er precies was veranderd. Vanzelfsprekend ging het hier niet om snelle tijden of het verzamelen van data, het was eerder een soort sessie om te wennen aan de baan. Het kan worden vergeleken met de warm-up die jaren geleden op het programma stond. De tijden werden dan ook niet bijhouden en de coureurs namen weinig risico's, al knalde Logan Sargeant wel vol over de kerbs. Ook Max Verstappen nam dit risico tijdens de extra trainingssessie.
