Hamilton trots op geblesseerde Wolff: "Hij is bij alle meetings"

Mercedes-teambaas Toto Wolff was in de afgelopen weken de grote afwezige in de paddock. De Oostenrijker is recent geopereerd en daardoor kan hij geen grote reizen maken. Volgens Lewis Hamilton is Wolff nog steeds extreem betrokken bij het team en is hij op afstand nog steeds betrokken bij alle beslissingen tijdens een raceweekend.

Wolff raakte tijdens de zomervakantie geblesseerd bij een ongelukje met zijn mountainbike. De Oostenrijker moest daarom daags voor de Japanse Grand Prix onder het mes gaan. Hij miste de race in Suzuka en hij was ook anderhalve week geleden niet aanwezig in Qatar. Toch kreeg de wereld hem te horen toen hij zich op de boordradio van George Russell meldde. Wolff liet hier mee zien dat hij via een omweg wel degelijk betrokken was bij het team.

Mercedes-coureur Lewis Hamilton laat dan ook weten dat Wolff op alle mogelijke manier betrokken is bij het team. In gesprek met RaceFans legt Hamilton het uit: "Hij is niet in persoon aanwezig, maar hij is nog steeds onderdeel van alle meetings. Hij is aanwezig op de radio, net als alle mensen op de fabriek die het hele weekend bezig zijn met de strategie. Hij is nog steeds voor honderd procent betrokken bij ons, hij is er alleen fysiek niet bij. Hij is onderdeel van de meetings en hij spreekt zich daar uit op dezelfde manier als hij er wel bij is."

      In het originele stuk kwamen de woorden Hamilton en pride in 1 zin samen voor en dat kwam automatisch in het filter terecht. Vandaar nu een stukje met een kleine omweg.

    Ik vond het wel verrassend dat Toto na de aanrijding van Lewis nog op de radio geweest is. Blijkbaar heeft ie thuis dus ook reserve headsets.
