Hamilton looft team na derde plaats: "Ik waardeer hun werk"

Lewis Hamilton mag aanstaande zondag de Amerikaanse Grand Prix vanaf de derde plaats gaan starten. De Britse Mercedes-coureur kwam goed voor de dag in de kwalificatie en hij was eigenlijk op geen foutje te betrappen. Hij was blij en hij dankte na afloop zijn team.

Hamilton is onverminderd populair in de Verenigde Staten. De Britse zevenvoudig wereldkampioen beloonde zijn fans met een keurige derde plaats in de kwalificatie voor de Grand Prix. Hij profiteerde van het feit dat Max Verstappen de track limits had overschreden, maar dat mag de pret niet drukken. Hamilton zwaaide enthousiast naar zijn fans terwijl ze voor hem klapten, hij kreeg een groter applaus dan polesitter Charles Leclerc.

Hamilton omschreef het Circuit of the Americas na afloop als één van zijn favoriete circuits op de kalender van de Formule 1. Nadat hij de fans had bedankt sprak hij zich uit bij interviewer van dienst James Hinchcliffe: "Ik wil iedereen op de fabriek graag willen bedanken. Ze hebben zo hard gepusht om de auto te verbeteren en we hebben stappen gezet om dichterbij de andere coureurs te komen. Ik weet dat iedereen daar hard voor heeft gewerkt. Ik waardeer hun harde werk. Jammer genoeg zijn we nog niet de snelste, maar morgen is er weer een kans."
