Dennis bevestigt Red Bull-training: "Dit is een welkome verrassing"

Het team van Red Bull Racing moet dit seizoen nog twee keer een rookie gaan inzetten in een vrije training. Het lijkt er op dat ze dit in Abu Dhabi gaan doen. Formule E-kampioen Jake Dennis is één van de gelukkigen, hij bevestigt dat hij een telefoontje heeft ontvangen van Red Bull-teambaas Christian Horner.

Red Bull had in eerste instantie het idee om Liam Lawson twee keer in te zetten tijdens een vrije training. Dit plannetje viel echter in het water omdat Lawson meerdere races inviel bij AlphaTauri. De Nieuw-Zeelander is nu dus geen rookie meer en Red Bull moet outside the box denken. Dat hebben ze gedaan, want het lijkt er stevig op dat ze Red Bull Junior Isack Hadjar en Formule E-kampioen Jake Dennis gaan inzetten in Abu Dhabi.

Vooral die laatste naam is opvallend, want Dennis is slechts als simulatorcoureur verbonden aan Red Bull. Het team heeft er nog niets over gedeeld, maar in gesprek met Autosport bevestigt Dennis het nieuws: "Het was best een verrassing, want ik zie mijzelf niet als een junior. Mijn focus ligt puur en alleen op de Formule E en ik wil hier leveren. Ik had dit telefoontje dus helemaal niet verwacht. Ik dacht dat we het over simulatorwerk gingen hebben, maar dit is een welkome verrassing."
