Wat gebeurde er op de vrijdag in Brazilië?

Gisteren werden er op het circuit van Interlagos in de Braziliaanse stad Sao Paulo de eerste vrije training en de kwalificatie verreden. Het was een zeer chaotische dag en er gebeurde zeer veel tijdens de sessies. GPToday.net zet een aantal van deze opvallende momenten op een rijtje.

Red Bull

Max Verstappen noteerde in de kwalificatie 'gewoon' weer de snelste tijd. De Nederlandse wereldkampioen start de Grand Prix vanaf de pole position en hij geldt ook als de grote favoriet voor de zege. Toch lijkt het er op dat de strijd om de zege en de snelste tijd in de Sprint Shootout veel spannender gaat worden dan men denkt. Verstappen heeft zijn pole vooral te danken aan de juiste timing. Als er geen storm was geweest hadden de teams van McLaren, Ferrari, Mercedes en ook Aston Martin kunnen meedoen om de pole.

AlphaTauri

Het team van AlphaTauri maakte een week geleden in Mexico nog heel veel indruk. De Italiaanse renstal nam afscheid van de laatste plaats in het constructeurskampioenschap en Daniel Ricciardo kende een fantastisch weekend. Als Ricciardo zondag aan de race start, dan start hij dertien plekken verder naar achteren dan een week eerder. Het laat de enorme wisselvalligheid bij AlphaTauri zien. Ook Ricciardo's teamgenoot Yuki Tsunoda start overigens vanuit het achterveld.

Lance Stroll

De grootste verrassing van de Braziliaanse kwalificatie? Dat was Lance Stroll. De Canadese coureur werd in de afgelopen maanden flink bekritiseerd vanwege zijn gedrag op en naast de baan. In Brazilië was er echter niets meer te zien van zijn chagrijnige en lompe gedrag van enkele weken geleden. Hij reed een foutloze kwalificatie en hij maakte geen enkele fout, het leverde hem de derde tijd op. Hij mag de race vanaf de tweede startrij starten en hij maakt dus een reële kans op een podiumscore.
