Storm zorgde voor gevaarlijke situaties tijdens kwalificatie

De Braziliaanse kwalificatie van vandaag kende een bizar einde. De donkere wolken hingen al de hele tijd boven de baan, maar pas in de slotminuten ging het pas echt stormen. Op de baan hadden de coureurs er weinig last van omdat ze direct naar binnen gingen. Op de tribunes ontstonden echter gevaarlijke situaties.

Op de televisiebeelden was al te zien dat een aantal tentdoeken rondom de baan flink stonden te klapperen. Op beelden op sociale media is echter gezien dat er grote schade is aan een aantal tribunes. Een fotograaf deelt dat het dak van een tribune is omgewaaid en dat hij daardoor bijna gewond raakte. Op andere beelden is te zien dat er inderdaad een dak wegwaait, maar het is niet duidelijk of dit om hetzelfde dak gaat.

Gelukkig is het een doek en ziet de stalen constructie er stabiel uit.

Op COTA was deze sessie vooraf afgelast. Daar hebben ze veel ervaring met die stormen en zeker met massa's mensen in tenten is dit een groot risico. Ik hoop dat het bij schade blijft en dat er geen gewonden zijn.
