Costa enthousiast over weerzien met Brawn bij Mercedes GP

Aldo Costa voegt zich eind dit jaar bij het team van Mercedes GP en verheugt zich op de hernieuwde samenwerking met oude bekenden Ross Brawn en Michael Schumacher. De Italiaan werd eerder dit jaar weggestuurd bij Ferrari. Costa wilde eigenlijk iets anders gaan doen, maar Brawn en Mercedes GP lokten hem terug naar de Formule 1.

Aan Gazzetta dello Sport vertrouwde Costa toe: Ik ben enthousiast. Mercedes GP is bezig om zich te verbeteren en die filosofie komt overeen met mijn ambities en karakter. Nadat het over was bij Ferrari sprak ik met Ross Brawn en Bob Bell. Ross en ik hadden aan een paar woorden genoeg om te merken dat we nog steeds op dezelfde golflengte zitten. Eenmaal weg bij Ferrari wilde ik eerst een tijdje niets doen, ik concentreerde me op persoonlijke dingen. Ik overwoog om iets buiten de racerij te doen, maar de mogelijkheid voor een rentree bij een groot team als Mercedes GP lokte me terug. Ik ben de Engineering Director en ga leiding geven aan een team voor het ontwerp en de ontwikkeling van de auto. Ik ga ook jonge techneuten begeleiden. Mijn functie beperkt zich tot ontwerpen, ik ga niet naar de circuits. Dat is een beetje zoals ik te werk ging voordat ik technisch directeur bij Ferrari werd.

Die man is blij dat hij bij Ferrari weg is en nu weer bij een team zit waar mogelijkheden zijn en gestreeft wordt voor winst i.p.v eerste plekje gevecht. Na een tijdje heb je genoeg van dat rode spul.
