Horecamedewerkers dreigen met staking vlak voor GP Las Vegas

Over anderhalve week staat de nieuwe Grand Prix van Las Vegas op het programma. De voorbereidingen verlopen niet helemaal soepel, want in de stad is niet iedereen blij met de komst van de Formule 1. Horecamedewerkers dreigen nu hun werk neer te leggen vanwege een geschil met hun werkgevers.

De hype rondom de aanstaande Grand Prix van Las Vegas is groot, maar in de afgelopen weken kwamen er ook veel kritische geluiden naar buiten. Bewoners hadden last van de werkzaamheden aan het circuit, doeken op de loopbruggen werden weggehaald door mensen omdat deze het zicht belemmerde en ook het feit dat er bomen werden weggehaald bij het Bellagio hotel zorgde voor een beetje ophef.

Een aanstaande staking van horecamedewerkers kan nu ook voor hinder gaan zorgen. Volgens NPR willen ruim 35.000 mensen vanaf komende vrijdag in staking gaan. Ze gaan in staking als hun vakbond geen deal weet te sluiten met onder meer MGM Resorts en Wynn Resorts. Met Caesars Entertainment is vandaag een overeenkomst gesloten door de vakbond.

Deze stakingen zouden de Grand Prix niet plat kunnen leggen, maar het zou wel voor veel hinder kunnen zorgen. De desbetreffende werknemers zijn niet tevreden met hun arbeidsomstandigheden en de vakbond probeert een deal te sluiten. Veel van de werknemers werken onder een verlopen contract.

    Tja.... als je extreem diep in de buidel moet tasten voor een kaartje in dat gekkenhuis van een 'stad' dan kun je best een gokje wagen als je in de horeca werkt. Genoeg geld in de omgeving om mogelijk een betere deal rond te krijgen. Geef ze eens ongelijk...

      Over diep in de buidel tasten gesproken; in de meeste hotels op de strip betaal je voor een flesje water (max 0.5 liter) uit de minibar meer dan 15 dollar. En dat al zonder dat F1 in town is. Bi-effing-zar

    Ik heb gehoord dat Horeca ondernemingen met zicht op het circuit nu een deal hebben gesloten van 15.000 euro per locatie. Totale waanzin. Dit zijn kleine bedrijfjes die de wil op worden gelegd door topadvocaten. Ook wil de FOM nu 40 miljoen zien van de gemeente, terwijl ze eerst hadden afgesproken dan ze zelf alles zouden bekostigen. Het verkeer staat hele dagen muurvast en het ergste.. Mensen moeten een speciale toeristenbelasting gaan betalen. Ook als ze permanent in Las Vegas verblijven betalen ze één maand toeristenbelasting en daarna vervalt het voor deze mensen. Wat een poppenkast.
