Organisatie plaatst zeer opvallende kerbstones in Las Vegas

Over anderhalve week staat de Grand Prix van Las Vegas op het programma. De voorbereidingen zijn ondertussen in volle gang en men is bezig met de laatste details. Beelden van het circuit gaan inmiddels rond op de sociale media en daarop zijn veel details te zien.

Het pitlanecomplex, de paddock en de tribunes zijn al een tijdje af. Inmiddels worden de betonnen muren rondom de baan en de lichten ook in de stad geplaatst. Aangezien het gaat op een stratencircuit, lekken er veel beelden van de werkzaamheden uit. De kerbstones zijn inmiddels ook neergelegd en deze gaan inmiddels het internet over. De kerbs zijn namelijk voorzien van een Las Vegas-tintje. Op de kerbstones zijn namelijk gokelementen geschilderd, het zal ongetwijfeld voor mooie plaatjes gaan zorgen tijdens de race.

    "Volgend weekend zal het Formule 1-veld voor het eerst sinds 1982 neerstrijken in Las Vegas, op een volledig nieuwe lay-out langs de beroemde strip. De race zal plaatsvinden om 22:00 lokale tijd, een tijdstip dat volgens Ross Brawn wellicht uitdagingen met zich meebrengt. Rond de avonduren zal het namelijk vrij koud zijn in Vegas.

    Brawn benadrukt dat ze bij het ontwerpen van de baan geen rekening hebben gehouden met de temperaturen. Deze schommelen rond de vijf graden Celsius in de avond. [maak daar maar tien van] “Het enige waar we aanvankelijk geen rekening mee hebben gehouden, zijn de koude temperaturen. Het kan zeker een uitdaging zijn om de auto’s bij deze kou goed te laten presteren”, aldus de managing director van de FOM.

    Formule 1-teams zijn gewend aan uitdagingen, maar dit is een nieuwe proef. Een recht stuk van bijna twee kilometer gaat waarschijnlijk extra moeilijkheden veroorzaken voor de teams, aangezien de banden daar haast geen temperatuur genereren. Brawn vertrouwt echter op de bandenproducent Pirelli. “De bandenleveranciers hebben extra werk geleverd, zodat dat de banden deze omstandigheden aankunnen.”

    Las Vegas staat natuurlijk bekend om de show, en Brawn is dan ook overtuigd dat het evenement een succes wordt. “Natuurlijk hebben we enkele uitdagingen die we nog nooit eerder hebben gehad, maar ik ben ervan overtuigd dat het een spectaculair evenement wordt”, zo concludeert de Brit."

      Iedereen zal met een low downforce vleugel gaan rijden in Las Vegas, anders ben je op het 2 km lange stuk a sitting duck.

      Dat snap ik. Echter heeft Ferrari speciaal voor de aanval op Red Bull in Monza volledig ingezet voor een extreem kleine vleugel. Speciaal ontwikkeld voor Monza dus. En die kunnen ze hier dan weer inzetten eventueel. Red Bull en vele andere teams hebben nagelaten om specifiek voor Monza een speciale achtervleugel te ontwerpen.
      De meeste auto's zullen daardoor altijd meer luchtweerstand genereren op de rechte stukken dan Ferrari. En op de strip zal het ruim 2 km volle gas zijn. Daarbij is er nog een redelijk lang recht stuk.
