Red Bull gaat concept aanpassen voor RB20

Het team van Red Bull Racing presteert dit seizoen zeer sterk in de Formule 1. De Oostenrijkse renstal heeft slechts één Grand Prix niet gewonnen en hun concept lijkt helemaal in orde te zijn. Toch zal Red Bull het concept voor de nieuwe RB20 wel gaan aanpassen.

Red Bull heeft dit seizoen goud in handen. De Oostenrijkse renstal heeft de juiste auto ontworpen en ze lijken geen zwakke punten meer te hebben. Terwijl de concurrentie de filosofie van de RB19 probeert te kopiëren, zoekt Red Bull zelf naar nieuwe slimmigheden. Men beseft zich namelijk dat niets veranderen aan het concept, niet de juiste beslissing is met het oog op het aankomende seizoen.

Niet slim

Red Bulls Chief Engineer Paul Monaghan laat dan ook duidelijk weten dat er is zal gaan veranderen aan het concept voor komend jaar. In gesprek met Motorsport.com is hij duidelijk: "Het zou niet slim zijn om niets te doen. De tegenstand wordt groter. Er zijn echter wel wat strakkere regels ten opzichte van eerdere jaren. Toen konden we iets meer doen. Het zou je niets verbazen als de 2024-auto een evolutie wordt van de huidige wagen. Het is namelijk niet slim zijn om het huidige concept weg te gooien."

Grotere stap

Monaghan beseft zich dat er wel iets moet gebeuren. Hij weet dat dit erbij hoort en dat de concurrentie zeker niet niets gaat doen. Monaghan: "Aan de andere kant moeten we ook vooruitgang boeken. We moeten sneller worden. De tegenstanders zitten ons gewoon op de hielen. Als zij een stap zetten, kunnen wij maar beter een grotere stap zetten. Toch komen er een hoop geleerde zaken en voordelen van de huidige wagen terug in de RB20. Dan zien we volgend jaar in Bahrein of we het goed hebben gedaan."

  Als je lijdt kan je niet volgen . . . gaat dan eerder op voor Mercedes.
  
  Echt wel benieuwd wat RB gaat veranderen aan het beproefde concept.
  Het zal zeker een behoorlijke boost aan de performantie geven in hun simulator want anders deden ze het niet.

Zou natuurlijk wel een enorme stunt zijn als straks het hele veld met een kopie van de RB 19 aan de start staat, en RedBull met een wagen zonder sidepods op de proppen komt, en alles en iederen om de oren rijdt...

Concept veranderen? Ik zou rupsbanden monteren. Dat scheelt veel tijd, want dan hoef je nooit meer een bandenwissel uit te voeren.
