Brundle roept FIA op om regels te wijzigen na putdeksel-incident

Het team van Ferrari verliet Las Vegas met veel frustratie. Ze moesten hard aan de bak nadat de wagen van Carlos Sainz zwaar beschadigd was geraakt na een incident met een putdeksel. Sainz ontving zelfs een gridstraf en volgens Martin Brundle moeten de regels worden aangepast.

In de eerste vrije training ging het helemaal mis op de Strip. Een frame van een putdeksel was losgeslagen en Carlos Sainz kon dit niet meer ontwijken. De Spanjaard knalde vol over de putdeksel heen en zijn wagen had zeer veel schade. Ook Esteban Ocon reed over het frame en zijn team Alpine moest hard aan de bak. De schade bij Sainz was het grootst, zijn chassis, krachtbron en vloer waren kapot.

Honderden pagina's

Sainz ontving een gridstraf van tien plaatsen omdat Ferrari een motoronderdeel moest vervangen. Ferrari vroeg de stewards om dispensatie, maar dit was niet mogelijk. Martin Brundle vraagt in zijn Sky Sports-column om een regelwijziging: "Er zitten honderden pagina's in het sportieve reglement en specifiek in de sportieve en technische regels van de Formule 1, maar er staat niets in dat de stewards toestemming geeft om een oogje dicht te knijpen als iets gewoon oneerlijk is."

Inspraak

Brundle stelt wel dat het zeer gevaarlijk is om de stewards een kans te geven om eenzijdig de regels te negeren. De Britse commentator vindt dat er een manier moet worden gevonden waardoor de teams geen inspraak hebben op dit punt: "We moeten een formulering toevoegen, met de nodige checks en balances, die kan worden toegepast zonder bang te hoeven zijn voor juridische acties of voor teams die het in andere scenario's in hun voordeel te kunnen gebruiken."

De regels lijken me duidelijk genoeg zo, iets vervangen waarvan je aan de max zit is straf.
Voor de rest van de teams zou het pas oneerlijk zijn. Zie 2021 Mercedes als voorbeeld.

  Dus moeten de regels zo aanpast worden dat het 'slachtoffer' (Ferrari in dit geval) sportief en financieel volledig wordt gecompenseerd zonder dat het voor de andere teams oneerlijk is.
  Binnen de F1 zijn er genoeg knappe koppen (FIA, teams, coureurs) om er samen uit te komen maar men moet er wel mee aan de slag...

  Alle teams 1 joker om de kapotte onderdelen te vervangen bij een incident zoals deze waarvan de oorzaak bij de FIA ligt.
  
  Denk dat de fabrikanten gaan stuiteren, het maximaal aantal onderdelen is toch een prestige dingetje.

  Volgens mij was dit maar voor één team en coureur oneerlijk, en dat was Ferrari en Sainz.
  Voor dit soort uitzonderlijke gevallen, waarbij 100% vastgesteld is dat de schade is opgelopen door een technisch mankement aan het circuit, het team schadeloos moeten worden gesteld, en de onderdelen die beschadigd zijn geraakt mogen worden vervangen zonder verdere consequenties.
  De FIA verandert de regels continu, dus deze kan heel simpel in het reglement worden opgenomen…..

  Als je dat ook nog 'even' oplost, dan zijn we er maar dat is het lastigste...

Ferrari had er ook een gebruikte variant in kunnen zetten. Een nieuwe levert meer performance en is dus ook een voordeel.
