Officieel: Mick Schumacher tekent WEC-contract bij Alpine

Het hing al eventjes in de lucht, maar vandaag is het officieel geworden. Mick Schumacher staat vanaf volgend jaar weer aan de start van een wereldkampioenschap. De Duitser heeft een contract getekend bij het WEC-team van Alpine en hij gaat één van de Hypercars van de Franse renstal besturen.

Het was geen geheim dat Alpine interesse had in de diensten van Schumacher. Sterker nog, de Duitser werkte in oktober al een test af in de nieuwe Hypercar van het team. Schumacher verloor vorig jaar zijn zitje bij Haas in de Formule 1 en dit jaar fungeerde hij als reserve bij het team van Mercedes. Het is nog onduidelijk of hij deze rol gaat combineren met het WEC-seizoen bij Alpine.

Het is nog niet duidelijk met wie Schumacher zijn auto gaat delen. Alpine heeft naast de Duitser ook de coureurs Nicolas Lapierre, Matthieu Vaxiviere, Charles Milesi, Paul-Loup Chatin en Ferdinand Habsbrug gepresenteerd. In februari maakt Alpine bekend welke coureurs in welke auto zitten en dan toont het team ook de livery aan de rest van de wereld. Ze nemen het aankomend jaar in het WEC onder meer op tegen Toyota, Ferrari, Cadillac, Lamborghini en BMW.
