WEC onthult deelnemerslijst: 19 Hypercars én Valentino Rossi

Het aanstaande seizoen van het World Endurance Championship belooft een enorm spektakelstuk te worden. Autosportfederatie FIA heeft vandaag de deelnemerslijst bekend gemaakt met daarop 19 Hypercars, een groot deelnemersveld in de nieuwe LMGT3-klasse, veel nieuwe fabrikanten én MotoGP-legende Valentino Rossi.

Het was al bekend dat er dit jaar geen LMP2-bolides zouden gaan deelnemen aan het wereldkampioenschap. Aangezien het aantal Hypercars enorm groeit en er veel animo was voor de nieuwe LMGT3-klasse, was er geen plek meer voor de LMP2's. Deze klasse zal overigens wel aan de start verschijnen tijdens de 24 uur van Le Mans. Op de deelnemerslijst van het WEC staan in ieder geval veel opvallende en grote namen.

Nieuwe namen

Veel teams hebben hun line-ups nog niet rond, maar dat betekent niet dat ze niet op de deelnemerslijst staan. Er zullen 19 Hypercars gaan deelnemen aan het wereldkampioenschap. BMW, Alpine, Isotta Fraschini en Lamborghini zullen voor het eerst gaan deelnemen in deze klasse. De teams van Vanwall en Glickenhaus verschijnen niet meer aan de start in het aankomende WEC-seizoen.

Klantenteams

Er zullen aankomend jaar ook meerdere klantenteams aan de start verschijnen in de Hypercar-klasse. Hertz Team Jota nam vorig jaar al deel aan de klasse, maar dit jaar rijden ze mee met twee Porsches. Ook het team van Proton verschijnt weer aan de start met een Porsche. Voor het eerst staat er ook een derde Ferrari op de deelnemerslijst, want AF Corse zal een extra auto gaan inzetten. Deze wagen zal worden bestuurd door Robert Kubica, de twee andere coureurs zijn nog niet bekend.

Rossi

In de nieuwe LMGT3-klasse staan veel verschillende auto's aan de start. Het team van Proton zal hier twee Ford Mustangs gaan inzetten. Voormalig Toyota-fabriekscoureur Jose Maria Lopez stapt over naar deze klasse en hij zal voor het team van Akkodis een Lexus gaan besturen. De opvallendste naam in deze klasse vindt men terug in de BMW M4 van het team van WRT. Eén van de coureurs van de auto met startnummer 46 is namelijk MotoGP-legende Valentino Rossi.

  Hoe bedoel je?
  
  Isotta bouwde auto's en raceauto's vanaf begin vorige eeuw tot aan WO2.
  Tegenwoordig vooral scheepvaart en vliegtuigen denk ik. Hebben nog steeds een race-afdeling zeker, of opnieuw?

  Die Glickenhaus bolides zagen er altijd gelikt uit. Vooral die matzwarte uit 2011 (P4-5).
