Wat is er deze winter te beleven aan autosport?

In Europa gaan de Formule 1 en vele andere klasses de komende tijd genieten van een welverdiende 'winterslaap'. Maar op andere continenten is gedurende winter genoeg te beleven. Hieronder een overzicht van de belangrijkste evenementen onder genot van warme chocolademelk.

24 uur van Daytona
De eerste kroniek van het langeafstandsracen is de 24 uur van Daytona. De wedstrijd begint 27 januari. Veel bekende coureurs doen mee, zoals voormalig F1-coureur Jenson Button en Brandon Hartley, Indy-500-winnaar Marcus Ericsson en IndyCar-coureurs Colton Herta, Scott Dixon en Sebastian Bourdais. Ook zijn Nederlanders Renger van der Zande, bekend van ZiggoSport Race Café, en voormalig F3-coureur Tijmen van der Helm van de partij. De baan is een roval, een deel circuit en een deel oval.

Formule E
Nyck de Vries kende een teleurstellend F1-avontuur, maar wil zich herpakken in de Formule E. De Nederlander moet begin 2024 meteen aan de bak. 13 januari is de ePrix van Mexico en twee weken later een double header in Saoedi-Arabië. 10 februari is nog ePrix van India.

FRMECA
Vanaf 12 januari tot en met 18 februari is het Formula Renault Middle East Championship by Alpine. Deze klasse zit tussen de F4 en F3 in, en is een opwarmertje voor coureurs die de Europese variant gaan rijden of de overstap hebben gemaakt naar de Formule 3. Er zijn vijf weekenden met elk twee races. Driemaal wordt afgereisd naar Abu Dhabi en tweemaal naar het circuit van Dubai. De titelverdediger van deze serie is Andrea Kimi Antonelli die volgend jaar in de Formule 2 rijdt.

Asia Le Mans Series 2023-2024
Net als in Europa is er een ook Aziatische variant van de Le Mans Series. Het veld bestaat uit LMP2, LMP3 en GT-bolides. De eerste twee vier-uur-races zijn achter de rug. De wedstrijd werd verreden op het circuit van Sepang.

In februari 2024 gaat de serie verder met nog drie races, waaronder de vier uur van Dubai (4 februari) en tweemaal de vier uur van Abu Dhabi (10-11 februari). Van het deelnemers is Nikita Mazepin de meest opvallende naam. De Rus rijdt onder een neutrale vlag vanwege het conflict in Oekraïne.

24H series
Op 9 december is er ook een langeafstandsrace te bewonderen in het Midden-Oosten. Dan staat er de 12 uur van Koeweit op het programma. Het is onderdeel van de 24H Series. Deze serie reist de hele wereld om langeafstandsraces te organiseren met lage kosten voor deelnemers. 13 januari is er de 24 uur van Dubai en 21 januari de zes uur van Dubai. Er wordt voornamelijk met GT-bolides gereden.

12 uur van Abu Dhabi
Voor de dertiende keer is de Gulf 12 hours op het circuit van Abu Dhabi. De wedstrijd is 9 december. GT3-wagens zijn de enige bolides die zich mogen inschrijven. Grote merken als Mercedes, Audi en Aston Martin doen mee.

Komt er nog een race of champions? Kan alleen vinden dat het niet op dezelfde locatie als vorig jaar gehouden kan worden (opzich jammer was een leukere baan dan in stadions).
Kon wel genieten van de sneeuw editie van 2023.

OT: Ik lees net dat vader Jos dit jaar een hartoperatie heeft ondergaan en dat hij zich nu fitter voelt.
Dat hebben ze goed geheim weten te houden.

  Dat is destijds, nog niet lang geleden wel naar buiten gekomen, maar er is niet veel over geschreven. Dit staat op de Formule1dotnl sait:

Het was iets dat dat ik mijn leven lang heb gehad en dat nooit eerder is ontdekt, anders had ik me er direct aan kunnen laten helpen en kun je er honderd jaar mee worden.”

  @Pietje Bell: Bedankt, ik kan me nog herinneren dat Jos 2x niet goed werd en wit wegtrok na AD21 en de 1e overwinning van Max in Zandvoort maar weet natuurlijk niet of dit ermee te maken had.

  @Tifoso, ik ook niet, maar de eerste overwinning van Max in Zandvoort heeft Jos vanuit het ziekenhuis meegemaakt, want gedurende de race moest hij naar het ziekenhuis met buikklachten. Denk dat het tijdens een andere race was.
  AD'21 was natuurlijk een enorme spanning en ontlading. Hij trok daar wit weg vol ongeloof en opwinding toen Max over de finish reed. Even later had hij weer kleur op z'n wangen.
