FIA-steward geeft fout toe: "Straf voor Sainz in Vegas voelde verkeerd"

De gridstraf van Carlos Sainz in Las Vegas was één de controversieelste momenten van het afgelopen jaar. Hij kreeg een straf omdat zijn team onderdelen moest vervangen vanwege een incident met een putdeksel. Steward Derek Warwick geeft toe dat hij zich hier niet goed bij voelde.

Sainz kende een rampzalig raceweekend in Las Vegas. Zijn problemen werden veroorzaakt door een loszittend frame van en putdeksel op de Strip. Zijn Ferrari raakte zwaar beschadigd toen hij over de putdeksel heen reed. Ferrari moest een enorm aantal onderdelen vervangen en dat leverde ze een gridstraf van tien plaatsen op. Ze probeerden de straf kwijt te laten schelden door de stewards, maar dat kon volgens de regels niet.

Oud-coureur Derek Warwick was één van de stewards in Las Vegas. Hij geeft toe dat de stewards zich niet goed voelde bij deze straf. Bij de Autosport Awards reageerde Warwick bij Reuters: "Het is een lastige taak voor een steward, het is hetzelfde als bij een scheidsrechter. We moeten onpartijdig zijn, we moeten streng zijn en we moeten soms hard zijn, zelfs als het pijn doet. De straf die we in Vegas aan Sainz moesten geven voelde verkeerd, het was verkeerd. We hebben hard ons best gedaan om het voor elkaar te krijgen, maar zo zijn de regels."

De titel klopt inderdaad niet, de straf was niet fout, maar conform de manier waarop ze altijd gegeven wordt. Ofwel conform de zogenaamde ’uniformiteit' die we zo graag verlangen.

    Iets dat niet goed voelt is nog geen fout.
    Regels zijn regels en dus was het terecht.

      Dat de stewards zich bezwaard voelden om de straf te geven conform de uniformiteit is heel wat anders.

      Uiteraard was hij terecht. Het argument dat ik gebruik is, wat als het in race 4 gebeurt? Dan ook zonder consequenties een nieuwe accu en dus een 4race voordeel op de concurrentie? Wat als 1e accu vervanging was wegens (eigen) veroorzaakte crash en andere teams nog op 1e accu werken en bewust de kilometers en risico's hebben gemeden? De race erna wordt na een vrijdag crash een bult weggeschaafd, dus een externe oorzaak crash zou je kunnen beweren met precedent putdeksel kwijtschelding uitspraak.

    Dat je straf krijgt als je (noodzakelijk) onderdelen van een raceauto moet vervangen is de echte fout!

    'Ik veroordeel u voor iets waar u geen schuld aan had meneer Sainz maar befehl ist befehl'

    Als Warwick ballen had gehad had hij in Vegas een precedent kunnen scheppen.

    Warwick koos voor het schaapdom.

      Hij had gewoon alle teams bij elkaar moeten roepen en uitleg moeten geven waarom Sainz zijn strf ontloopt.

      Arone, dan was het hek van de dam. Alle teams gaan dan bij alle races zoeken naar een externe oorzaak die ervoor kan zorgen dat ze onder de straf uitkomen. Immers iemand die jou eraf rost kun je ook niks aan doen...

    De FIA draagt de volledige verantwoordelijkheid voor een 100% veilig te berijden circuit. Dus die gridstraf voor Sainz, en de enorme financiële schade voor Ferrari is te bezopen voor woorden.

      Er is een verschil tussen verantwoordelijk en aansprakelijk, zodra je één voet op het circuit zet, als bezoeker of als deelnemer, dan wijs je alle aansprakelijkheid van het circuit af. Anders zou geen enkel circuit economisch levensvatbaar zijn.
      De verantwoordelijkheid houdt op bij 'redelijkerwijs te voorkomen', 100% veilig te bereiden bestaat niet.
