FIA stelt spatborden-test uit vanwege hoge kosten

Autosportfederatie FIA is nog steeds bezig met het vinden van een oplossing om de spray te verminderen tijdens regenraces. Men kwam eerder dit jaar met een plan naar buiten met speciale spatborden. Tests met dit onderdeel zijn echter voorlopig uitgesteld op verzoek van de teams.

Spray vormde in de afgelopen twee seizoenen een groot probleem. Meerdere keren werden er sessies uitgesteld omdat het zicht te slecht was. Door het opspattende water konden de coureurs vrijwel niets zien en dat zorgde voor zeer gevaarlijke situaties. De FIA zocht naar oplossingen en ze kwamen uit bij spatborden. Deze kunnen achter de achterwielen worden geplaatst als het begint te regenen.

Er werden eerder dit jaar al een paar tests uitgevoerd en het was de bedoeling om dit in november weer te doen. De teams zagen echter dat het te duur werd en nu wordt er pas weer in mei 2024 mee getest. FIA-kopstuk Nikolas Tombazis wordt geciteerd door Motorsport.com: "Voor deze tests krijgen we hulp van de teams. We hebben zelf geen auto's. Het testwerk stond gepland voor begin november. De beperkte beschikbaarheid van onderdelen en de productiecapaciteit van de teams betekende dat ze alles extern moesten laten maken. Dat werd wel heel erg duur voor hen."

Het regende klachten van de teams over de extra werkzaamheden en investeringen; het budget cap water staat hen nu al aan de lippen, waardoor ze door die extra kosten financieel van de regen in de drup zouden belanden. Daar overigens de diffuser de meeste spray opwerpt zou een dergelijk project sowieso water naar de zee dragen kunnen blijken te zijn....

    Dan hebben ze ook niet zo heel veel verder gezocht daar.
    De goedkoopste oplossing zou zijn om alle circuits
