FIA voert regelwijziging door vanwege bloedhete race in Qatar

Autosportfederatie FIA heeft meerdere knopen doorgehakt voor het aankomende Formule 1-seizoen. Tijdens een vergadering van het World Motor Sport Council werd er onder meer gereageerd op de bloedhete race in Qatar. Er zal een maatregel worden genomen om dit soort situaties in de toekomst te voorkomen.

In de Azerbeidzjaanse hoofdstad Bakoe kwam het World Motor Sport Council bij elkaar. Er werden voor veel kampioenschappen beslissingen genomen, en dus ook voor de Formule 1. De meest in het oog springende besluit gaat over races in extreem warme omstandigheden. In Qatar hadden veel coureurs het immers zwaar door de hitte. Het WMSC heeft goedkeuring gegeven voor een zogenaamde cooling scoop, een soortgelijk onderdeel wordt ook in de IndyCars gebruikt.

Het World Motor Sport Council heeft nog meer beslissingen genomen voor de Formule 1. Deze zijn echter iets minder groot dan de cooling scoop. De pitlane zal vanaf 2024 weer veertig minuten voor de racestart opengaan. Dit jaar ging de pitlane vijftig minuten voor de start open, maar daar nemen ze nu dus weer afscheid van. Daarnaast mogen er ook minder zware metalen op de bodems van de auto's worden geplaatst. Ook zijn er kleine aanpassingen gedaan aan de regels voor 2026. Als laatst zijn er ook regels ingevoerd voor monteurs die aan auto's klussen als de desbetreffende wagen vanuit de pitlane start.
