Wolff en Horner geen vrienden: "Schudde in 2021 voor het laatst zijn hand"

Mercedes-teambaas Toto Wolff heeft in de afgelopen jaren veel verbale duels uitgevochten met Red Bull Racing-teambaas Christian Horner. De twee gingen echter zeer enthousiast met elkaar op de foto in Abu Dhabi. Volgens Wolff moet men daar niets achter zoeken, want de twee zijn zeker geen vrienden.

Horner en Wolff haalden vooral in 2021 regelmatig naar elkaar uit. De twee stonden ook in de afgelopen twee jaar vaak lijnrecht tegenover elkaar, maar er was wel onderling respect. Toen eerder deze week naar buitenkwam dat de FIA een onderzoek heeft geopend naar mogelijke belangenverstrengeling van Wolff, liet Horner weten dat zijn team geen klacht heeft ingediend. Red Bull deelde daarnaast ook het statement over de zaak.

Singapore

Wolff zelf is vooral blij dat Red Bull dit jaar niet alle races heeft gewonnen. De Oostenrijker voorspelde dit wel voorafgaand het seizoen. In gesprek met OE24 haalt Wolff opgelucht adem: "Goddank had ik het mis, in Singapore deden ze het niet goed. Maar verder wisten de andere coureurs niet niet de buurt komen of überhaupt winnen. Red Bull bevond zich echt in een ander heelal, het is logisch dat ze in 2024 ook weer sterk zullen zijn."

Vrienden

Wolff heeft wel respect voor de prestaties van Red Bull. Hij stelt alleen dat men niet zoveel moet zoeken achter de enthousiaste foto waarop hij Horner omhelst: "Dat gebeurde toen we de paddock verlieten. Er stond een leuke groep mensen om Mark Mateschitz heen, waaronder zijn moeder en andere mensen die ik goed ken. Ik ging erbij staan en ik had een leuk gesprek met Geri Horner en toen is die foto gemaakt. Of we vrienden zijn? De laatste keer dat wij elkaar de hand schudden, was in 2021 bij de laatste race. Je moet de prestaties van je rivaal erkennen, ik heb respect voor wat Red Bull heeft bereikt."

  Ik denk meer omdat dat echt niet zo gezond is voor de sport.
  Het is niet zo dat hij blij is omdat ze zelf een race hebben afgesnoept van RB.

  Ik weet het niet zeker, maar terwijl de hand van Toto losjes op de schouder van Christian ligt, zit die van Christian ferm als een bankschroef in de nek van Toto. Volgens mij is dit dan ook geen lach maar eerder een uiting van pijn? ;-)

Gezonde discussies, niks mis mee.
Zolang ze maar niet gaan knokken, dan legt Wolfie het af gezien Horny de fia aan zijn zijde heeft
