FIA en Formule 1 stappen in waterstof-werkgroep

De Formule 1 gaat zich bezighouden met een alternatieve brandstof. De koningsklasse van de autosport neemt samen met de FIA en het nieuwe Extreme H-kampioenschap plaats in een werkgroep over het racen op waterstof. Het is een opvallende move van de Formule 1.

Het is de bedoeling dat het Extreme H-kampioenschap vanaf 2025 wordt verreden. Dit kampioenschap is een soort spin-off van de Extreme E. In het nieuwe kampioenschap wordt er straks gereden met off-road-wagens die vergelijkbaar zijn met de auto's waarmee er wordt gereden in de Extreme E. Het grootste verschil is dat er in het nieuwe kampioenschap zal worden gereden in wagens die worden aangedreven door waterstof.

Dit heeft nu dus de aandacht getrokken van de Formule 1 en de FIA. Om de bredere inzet van deze technologie te bekijken wordt er nu dus een werkgroep ingezet waarbij alle drie de partijen zullen aanschuiven. De Formule 1 en de FIA sturen grote namen naar de bijeenkomsten van de werkgroep. In de Hydrogen Working Group nemen namelijk namens de Formule 1 Pat Symonds en namens de FIA Nikolas Tombazis plaats. Beide heren hebben een grote technische rol binnen de sport. Namens de Extreme H wordt Mark Grain afgevaardigd, hij is nu werkzaam in de Extreme E.

  Waterstof is er al netzolang als de F1 , maar beperkt wel het zicht voor de coureurs .
