FIA heeft nog niets gehoord over race in Madrid

Vorige week kwam naar buiten dat een deal over een Grand Prix in Madrid dichtbij is. Toch heerst er nog veel onduidelijkheid over deze mogelijke race. Volgens de FIA is het namelijk zo dat er nog geen enkel document over de nieuwe race of het desbetreffende circuit is ingeleverd.

Al het hele jaar gaan er geruchten rond over een nieuwe race in de straten van de Spaanse hoofdstad Madrid. Men heeft een nieuw stratencircuit op het oog rondom het IFEMA-complex. Het is niet duidelijk hoe de definitieve lay-out er precies uit zal zien en er is ook nog geen groen licht. Tevens is het onduidelijk of de race in Madrid ervoor zorgt dat de Spaanse Grand Prix niet meer in Barcelona zal worden verreden.

Wens

Bij de FIA heerst nog veel onduidelijkheid over het nieuws. De president van de Senaat van de FIA, Carmelo Sanz de Barros, laat aan Motorsport.com weten wat de situatie is: "Een race in Madrid is de wens van velen. Het is echter een proces wat doorlopen moet worden om een race te organiseren. Ik den niet dat het proces gevolgd is en dat alle stoppen zijn doorlopen. Dit proces begint bij de nationale autosportbond. Wanneer iemand een race wil organiseren in een land, ga je daarheen. Heeft de Spaanse bond dit geanalyseerd? Nee, ze hebben het nog niet gezien."

Circuit

Volgens Sanz de Barros moet de Spaanse bond eerst kijken of de plannen levensvatbaar zijn. Hij stelt dat er nog veel moet gebeuren: "Er wordt gesproken over een stratencircuit. Het eerste wat je moet doen, is het circuit homologeren. Wie verricht dit proces? De FIA. De Spaanse bond heeft nog niets ontvangen en daarom dus ook nog niets doorgestuurd aan de FIA. Niemand werkt momenteel aan dit project dat al dagen rondgaat in de media. Misschien is men bij het bouwen van het huis begonnen met het dak. Ik zeg niet dat het niet gaat gebeuren, maar niemand heeft de documenten nog ontvangen."

Gelukkig, voorlopig geen stratencircuit erbij, bovendien is de kalender al vol genoeg en is Barcelona tenminste een echt circuit.

Zoveel mooi vaste circuits in Spanje, en dan wil je in een stad op een stratencircuit gaan racen ?
