Torenhoge ambities bij Williams: "Meestrijden om de wereldtitel"

Het team van Williams zette dit jaar een aantal stappen in de goede richting. Onder leiding van de nieuwe teambaas James Vowles ging het team omhoog. Nieuwe technische man Pat Fry heeft nog grotere ambities en hij wil in de nabije toekomst zelfs mee gaan doen om de wereldtitel.

Fry werd eerder dit jaar aangesteld als de nieuwe Chief Technical Officer van het team van Williams. Hij kwam over van het team van Alpine en eerder was hij ook werkzaam voor onder meer McLaren en Ferrari. Bij Williams trof hij een team aan dat de weg omhoog in heeft gezet. De Britse renstal eindigde dit jaar namelijk op de zevende plaats in het constructeurskampioenschap.

Wereldtitels

Fry wil in de toekomst nog beter gaan presteren met Williams. Hij barst van de ambities en hij is in gesprek met Motorsport.com nogal duidelijk: "Het uiteindelijke doel is meestrijden om de wereldtitels. In twee, drie of vier jaar moeten we mee kunnen doen in die strijd. We moeten dan in de top drie zitten. Het is een flinke klus als je moet opbouwen van waar we nu staan, maar ik denk dat het allemaal mogelijk is."

Mindset

Fry werkte in het verleden bij McLaren en Ferrari. Daar leerde hij dat winnen de enige optie is en die denkwijze wil hij nu ook bij Williams gaan gebruiken: "We moeten dit team eigenlijk weer gaan opbouwen tot winnaars. In een team dat nogal onder gefinancierd is, eindig je in een bedrijf zonder algemene visie. De eerste vraag is dus: wat is de visie? Vanaf dat punt moeten we aan de slag gaan. We moeten de mensen ontwikkelen, we moeten de mindset ontwikkelen. Het is gemakkelijk in kaart te brengen, maar het is lastig uit te voeren."

  Zo lang Logan daar rondrijdt kunnen ze die ambities beter in de ijskast opbergen. Ik denk niet dat die jongen de capaciteiten heeft om het team mee te ontwikkelen en Albon kan niet alles alleen doen

Leuke woorden, maar dan moet eerst iets komen:
Geld, heel veel geld!

Het grote probleem voor Williams is al jaren lang hun faciliteiten. Die zijn echt flink verouderd in vergelijking met veel andere teams, en zeker de topteams.

Eerst dat dus, en veel goede mensen aantrekken en op de juiste plekken zetten. Pas dan kan je gaan werken aan betere prestaties, en kan je zeggen "over zoveel jaar willen we daar zijn".

Euh....

Dus als ik het goed begrijp, moet je eerst een team hebben om een bedrijf te kunnen worden en als je dan niet voldoende poen hebt, wordt het nog steeds een bedrijf, maar dan zonder visie. En als je team dan wel voldoende poen heeft, dan wordt het dus ook een bedrijf, maar dan eentje met een visie. En dan is het nog maar de vraag welke visie dit dan eigenlijk is? Is dit dan gelijk ook algemene visie of moet je daarvoor een team hebben met nog veel meer poen? Maar dan vraag ik me ook af of je dan ook meteen een bedrijf kunt starten zonder eerst een team te hebben, liefst met poen, want dan krijg je een (algemene) visie?
Hmm, ingewikkelde materie hoor....
