Brown staat achter Andretti: "Niemand is goed geïnformeerd"

Het is nog steeds niet duidelijk of het team van Andretti mag gaan deelnemen aan de Formule 1. De FOM heeft nog geen beslissing genomen en veel van de huidige teams zijn nog tegen de komst van de Amerikanen. Zak Brown ziet het wel zitten en hij denkt dan zijn collega's niet goed geïnformeerd zijn.

Begin dit jaar zette de FIA de deur op een kier voor mogelijke nieuwe Formule 1-teams. Uiteindelijk kreeg alleen Andretti groen licht van de autosportfederatie. Andretti heeft torenhoge ambities en ze hebben zelfs een deal met General Motors-merk Cadillac op zak. Het is de bedoeling dat GM vanaf 2028 krachtbronnen gaat leveren aan Andretti, als ze tenminste worden toegelaten tot de sport.

Taart

Veel van de huidige teams zien de komst van Andretti niet zitten. McLaren CEO Zak Brown is één van de weinige voorstanders. In de Track Limits Podcast legt hij dit uit: "Het voordeel is dat ze de taart kunnen laten groeien. Die taart kan bestaan uit fans, maar vooral uit televisie-opbrengsten. Op een bepaalde markt kan het gaan groeien en dat helpt bij de komst van nieuwe sponsors en spanning. Het nadeel is dat de taart niet groter wordt en dat verdeel je de stukjes onder meer mensen. Ik denk dat de meeste teams zo denken."

Informatie

Brown is echter van mening dat veel van de teams hun oordeel al klaar hebben staan zonder echt naar de plannen van Andretti te kijken. De CEO is duidelijk: "Ik denk dat wij allemaal niet goed geïnformeerd zijn over wat het voorstel echt is, iedereen loopt gewoon rond met zijn opvatting. Ik heb niet gezien wat er specifiek op tafel ligt. Mij mening is dat zolang het iets toevoegt aan de sport, het meer fans met zich meebrengt en meer televisiecontracten oplevert, dat het dan goed is. Als de taart groter wordt, dan heb ik liever één van de elf stukjes."

Zolang er niet meer prijzengeld komt voor de bestaande teams zal er niet gauw groen licht komen om Andretti binnen te halen.

Andretti zal nog een aantal jaren moeten wachten, die krijgt de komende jaren nog geen groen licht om mee te gaan doen in de F1.
