Ferrari loopt achter met contractverlengingen Sainz en Leclerc

Het team van Ferrari is nog altijd bezig met het verlengen van de contracten van Charles Leclerc en Carlos Sainz. Beide coureurs beschikken over een contract dat eind 2024 afloopt. Teambaas Frédéric Vasseur maakt zich vooralsnog geen zorgen, maar hij geeft wel toe dat ze achter op planning lopen.

Het is geen geheim dat Ferrari graag door wil gaan met Leclerc en Sainz. De Italiaanse renstal ziet geen reden om van line-up te veranderen, maar het is nog onduidelijk over wat voor soort contracten er wordt gesproken. Leclerc zou volgens recente geruchten in aanmerking komen voor een lang contract waarbij hij flink wat geld zou gaan verdienen. Sainz zou dan weer kunnen rekenen op een korter contract.

Comfortabel

Ferrari-teambaas Frédéric Vasseur maakt zich niet zoveel zorgen over de situatie. De Fransman stelt dat alles goed komt en bij Motorsport.com geeft hij tekst en uitleg: "Zoals je weet staan Charles en Carlos tot en met eind 2024 bij ons onder contract. We hebben dus nog wel een aantal maanden in het vooruitzicht. Het is vrij comfortabel en als je ziet dat Mercedes dit jaar pas eind augustus de contracten had verlengd, dan hebben wij nog vele weken en maanden voor ons."

Achter op schema

Vasseur geeft wel eerlijk toe dat het allemaal iets anders gaat dan men had gehoopt. De Franse teambaas blijft echter onverminderd positief: "Ik heb een jaar geleden verteld dat ik voor het einde van het jaar zou proberen om de knoop door te hakken. Ik moet toegeven dat het laatste deel van het seizoen een grote chaos was, ook voor jullie. Het was allemaal zeer veeleisend. We hebben vergaderingen gehad en gesprekken gevoerd, maar we lopen achter op het oorspronkelijke plan. Dat is helemaal geen probleem."
