Het Formule 1-seizoen was dit jaar niet bepaald spannend qua titelstrijd. Max Verstappen werd met speels gemak voor de derde keer wereldkampioen in de koningsklasse. Hij was echter niet de enige kampioen van dit jaar. GPToday.net zet een aantal andere opvallende racekampioenen uit 2023 op een rijtje.

Álex Palou - Indycar

Max Verstappen was dit jaar oppermachtig in de Formule 1. In de Verenigde Staten hoopten ze niet op een soortgelijke situatie, maar ze hadden pech. In de Indycar Series ging de titel namelijk naar Álex Palou. De razendsnelle Spanjaard won vijf races en hij finishte niet lager dan achtste. Met bijna honderd punten voorsprong op de concurrentie werd hij kampioen. Momenteel gaat het echter niet om zijn titel, maar om zijn juridische strijd met McLaren.

Jake Dennis, Formule E

Een andere opvallende wereldkampioen is Jake Dennis. De Britse coureur zegevierde dit jaar in de Formule E. In dienst van Avalanche Andretti kende hij een zeer stabiel seizoen. Hij won slechts twee races, maar hij viel ook maar één keer uit. In Londen kroonde hij zichzelf tot wereldkampioen. Als kers op de taart mocht hij in Abu Dhabi ook nog een vrije training rijden in de Red Bull van Verstappen.

Kalle Rovanperä - WRC

Ook de rallysport heeft zijn eigen toptalent. Voor het tweede seizoen op rij ging de wereldtitel in de WRC namelijk naar de Fin Kalle Rovanperä. De nog maar 23-jarige coureur veroverde voor het tweede seizoen op rij de titel. In dienst van Toyota presteerde hij zeer consistent en won hij in Portugal en Griekenland. Rovanperä toonde zich een duizenddingendoekje, want in zijn vrije weekenden nam hij ook nog deel aan driftwedstrijden.

Nasser Al-Attiyah - W2RC

We blijven even in de rallywereld hangen, want dit jaar werd er voor de tweede keer een officieel rallyraid wereldkampioenschap georganiseerd door de FIA. De parel van deze kalender is de fameuze Dakar Rally. De wereldtitel ging hier naar de goedlachse rallykoning uit Qatar: Nasser Al-Attiyah. Hij maakte deze maand een aantal opvallende toekomstplannen bekend. Al-Attiyah gaat de aankomende Dakar Rally rijden voor Prodrive en een jaar later stapt hij al over naar het nieuwe project van Dacia.

Andrea Kimi Antonelli - FRECA

Het Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine heeft niet alleen een lange naam, het is ook een hoog aangeschreven opstapklasse. Het FRECA-kampioenschap wordt altijd met veel interesse gevolgd door kenners. Dit jaar was er extra veel interesse, want megatalent Andrea Kimi Antonelli stond aan de start. Het Italiaanse Mercedes-talent werd met twee vingers in zijn neus kampioen. Hij verdiende direct promotie naar de Formule 2. In 2024 zal hij daar gaan schitteren.

Ritimo Miyata - Super Formula

Het Japanse Super Formula-kampioenschap wordt gezien als een sterke klasse. Alle aandacht in deze klasse ging dit jaar naar Liam Lawson. Het Nieuw-Zeelandse Red Bull-talent werd echter geen kampioen, de titel ging namelijk naar Ritomo Miyata. Hij pakte de mythische dubbel, want hij werd ook kampioen in de Super GT. Volgend jaar mag Europa gaan genieten van Miyata. Hij gaat rijden in de Formule 2 én de ELMS.
