Alfa Romeo wilde geen titelsponsor van Haas worden

Alfa Romeo neemt eind dit jaar afscheid als titelsponsor van het team van Sauber. De Italiaanse autofabrikant neemt voorlopig afscheid van de Formule 1 en ze gaan zich focussen op andere projecten. Er gingen eventjes geruchten rond over een deal met Haas, maar die gesprekken werden door Alfa Romeo afgekapt.

Het team van Sauber stond in de afgelopen jaren onder de naam van Alfa Romeo op de grid. Aangezien Sauber vanaf 2026 het fabrieksteam van auto wordt, vertrekt Alfa Romeo bij de Zwitserse renstal. De deal is op een respectvolle manier ten einde gekomen, maar het leek er eventjes op dat Alfa in de Formule 1 actief zou blijven. Er gingen geruchten rond over een soortgelijke deal met het team van Haas.

Alfa Romeo CEO Jean-Philippe Imperato geeft eerlijk toe dat er gesprekken werden gevoerd met Haas. Al snel kwam de CEO tot de conclusie dat zo'n deal weinig nut had. De eerlijke Imperato wordt geciteerd door de krant Ouest France: "Wilden we dit aangaan onder dezelfde omstandigheden, maar voor twee keer zoveel geld? Nee, want het bracht geen nieuw geld binnen en ik moest ook meer geld gaan steken in het ontwikkelen van producten. Sponsor worden van een ander team en hetzelfde nog een keer doen had weinig nut."

Van mij mogen ze Haas eruit trappen. Wat een aanfluiting dat team. Voor Gene Haas is het alleen maar een verdienmodel. Team is winstgevend en dat is genoeg voor Haas. Geen enkele intentie om te verbeteren. Hij vindt het prima zo. Dat het sportief gezien een drama is interesseert de man geen reet.
