Wie azen er aankomend jaar op een Formule 1-zitje?

Het aankomende Formule 1-seizoen belooft zeer aantrekkelijk te worden. Vrijwel alle coureurs beschikken namelijk over een aflopend contract. Ze zullen zich moeten bewijzen om in aanmerking te komen voor een nieuwe deal. Vanzelfsprekend liggen er ook kapers op de kust. GPToday.net zet een aantal coureurs op een rijtje die in 2024 willen bewijzen dat ze in de Formule 1 thuishoren.

Andrea Kimi Antonelli

De eerste naam is een opvallende: Andrea Kimi Antonelli. De 17-jarige Italiaan werd dit jaar kampioen in het FRECA-kampioenschap en in 2024 mag hij zich gaan bewijzen in de Formule 2. Antonelli wordt gezien als een megatalent en hij staat ook onder contract bij Mercedes. In de Formule 2 zal hij voor het topteam van Prema gaan rijden. Als hij presteert, dan moet u niet gek opkijken als hij in 2024 debuteert in de Formule 1. Een zitje bij Mercedes-klant Williams zou niet vreemd zijn.

Frederik Vesti

Een andere Mercedes-protegé met Formule 1-hoop is Frederik Vesti. De Deense coureur mocht dit jaar al een aantal vrije trainingen rijden voor Mercedes en zijn naam werd al eventjes genoemd bij Williams. Als Antonelli niet weet te overtuigen in zijn debuutseizoen, dan kan Mercedes zomaar Vesti naar voren gaan duwen. Dat ze veel vertrouwen in hem hebben bleek dit jaar al, ze gaven hem genoeg kansen tijdens de vrije trainingen.

Mick Schumacher

Ook Mick Schumacher zal weer gaan azen op een plekje op de grid. De Duitser werd na zijn pijnlijke exit bij Haas opgepikt door Mercedes. Hij zal zijn reserverol in 2024 gaan combineren met een zitje bij het Hypercar-team van Alpine. Als hij in het WEC zal presteren, dan zal men dat in de Formule 1 ook zien. Bij Mercedes heeft men vertrouwen in Schumacher en de Duitser zelf wil zich bewijzen.

Liam Lawson

Ook Liam Lawson wil snel weer terugkeren op de Formule 1-grid. De Nieuw-Zeelander viel dit jaar een aantal weken in voor de geblesseerde Daniel Ricciardo. Bij AlphaTauri liet hij mooie dingen zien en er was zelfs enige teleurstelling toen bleek dat hij geen zitje kreeg voor 2024. Teameigenaar Red Bull heeft echter veel vertrouwen in Lawson. In 2024 staat hij aan de zijlijn, maar het moet wel heel erg gek lopen als hij in 2025 niet op de grid staat.

Oliver Bearman

Het team van Ferrari zal ook een grote rol gaan spelen op de transfermarkt in 2024. Carlos Sainz en Charles Leclerc zijn dicht bij een nieuw contract, maar Ferrari heeft ook wat talent achter de hand. Megatalent Oliver Bearman rijdt in 2024 in de Formule 2 en Ferrari liet hem dit jaar niet voor niets vrije trainingen rijden voor Haas. Nico Hülkenberg en Kevin Magnussen voelen de hete adem van Bearman al in hun nek.

Théo Pourchaire

Regerend Formule 2-kampioen Théo Pourchaire rijdt in 2024 niet in de Formule 1. De Fransman mag zich gaan bewijzen in de Japanse Super Formula-klasse. Sauber heeft veel vertrouwen in Pourchaire. Hij blijft aan als reservecoureur, al spreken ze bij de Zwitserse renstal liever van derde coureur. Pourchaire moet dat vertrouwen nu terug gaan betalen. Als hij dat doet, dan is de kans groot dat hij in 2025 debuteert in de Formule 1.

Maar ja, Christian Horner staat aan de kant van Ricciardo dus die hoop wordt gelijk al de grond in geboord.
