Brown denkt dat de Formule 1 op de IndyCars gaat lijken

Het team van Red Bull Racing had dit seizoen een enorme voorsprong op de concurrentie. Terwijl de Red Bulls wegreden bij de rest, vochten de overige coureurs spannende duels uit. Zak Brown is daar tevreden over, hij denkt dat de Formule 1 op dit gebied op de IndyCars gaat lijken.

Het was dit seizoen niet spannend als het ging om de strijd om de zege. Red Bull-coureur Max Verstappen won negentien Grands Prix en zijn teamgenoot Sergio Perez kwam twee keer als winnaar over de streep. Slechts één keer ging de zege naar een andere coureur. De duels achter de Red Bulls waren dan ook zeer spannend, vrijwel elk weekend was er een andere renstal die verraste.

Competitiever

McLaren CEO Zak Brown ziet dit als een positief teken. De Amerikaan wijst naar de IndyCar-klasse, waar er veel coureurs om de zege vechten. Bij Motorsport.com trekt Brown de vergelijking: "Als je naar de tijden kijkt, dan zie je dat zelfs de nummers negen en tien bij de teams een bedreiging kunnen vormen voor Q3. Voor het kampioenschap zullen we waarschijnlijk dezelfde hoofdpersonen blijven zien. Ik denk wel dat de Formule 1 competitiever wordt. Ik denk dat het meer zoals de IndyCar wordt, waar veel coureurs op elk moment kunnen winnen."

Brown stelt dat het achter Max Verstappen al zeer spannend was. De CEO van McLaren denkt dat het alleen maar beter gaat worden in de toekomst: "Ik denk dat het dichter bij elkaar gaat zitten. Het zou geweldig zijn voor de sport als er niet zo'n dominantie is en dat er iets van zeven of acht coureurs in een weekend kunnen winnen. Dat zou fantastisch zijn voor de sport en ik denk dat we die kant opgaan."

Het zou al geweldig voor de F1 zijn als één team in 2024 de aansluiting bij RB zou kunnen bewerkstelligen.
Dus wake-up Zak, de F1 zal nooit op de IndyCar gaan lijken...
