Ralf Schumacher vraagt om privacy voor broer Michael

Het is deze week precies tien jaar geleden dat Michael Schumacher zwaargewond raakte bij een ski-ongeval. Hoe het momenteel gaat met de zevenvoudig wereldkampioen, is onbekend. Zijn broer Ralf Schumacher mist hem en hij roept iedereen op om de familie met rust te laten.

Michael Schumacher is nog altijd één van de beste coureurs uit de geschiedenis van de Formule 1. De Duitser werd zeven keer wereldkampioen en hij bezorgde Ferrari veel successen. Hij is echter ook al tien jaar het onderwerp van gesprek. Bij een ski-ongeval op zijn vakantie raakte hij zwaar gewond waarna hij enige tijd in coma lag. Hoe het nu met hem gaat, is niet bekend. De familie beschermt zijn privacy op alle mogelijke manieren.

Schumachers broer Ralf is van mening dat iedereen hier respect voor moet hebben. Hij doet zijn emotionele oproep in gesprek met Sky Sports: "Het is schokkend hoelang geleden het al is en hoe snel die tien jaar zijn gepasseerd. Ik mis de tijd waarin hij mijn mentor was en waar we veel tijd doorbrachten. Het was een keerpunt voor de familie. We hebben afgesproken om er niets over te zeggen, maar er is nog veel interesse. Ik zou soms wat meer rust voor de familie wensen. Ik geloof dat Michael zijn tijd in de publieke belangstelling heeft gehad. Dat was geweldig voor hem en hele generaties die hem hebben gevolgd."

    Hij bedoelt neem ik aan meer rust voor de directe familie.
    Een alleszins redelijk verzoek, lijkt me, alhoewel het misschien een idee is om uit te leggen waarom je er 'niets over wil zeggen'...
    Ik denk dat dáár de nieuwsgierigheid voornamelijk naar is.

      Het was en is echt klaar met Michael.
      We hebben de herinneringen aan een uniek tijdperk en een unieke rijder. Aan alles komt een eind en eigenlijk is aan het verhaal Schumacher in 2013 gewoon een eind gekomen. Wat rest van dat verhaal is voor de direct betrokkenen en niet voor ons. Het is wat het is.

      @RJH: wil je weten waarom ze er niets over zeggen?
      Dat lijkt me evident: het is een privézaak, dus gaat de medische status van Michael Schumacher niemand wat aan.
      Dat men nieuwsgierig is, begrijp ik, maar de familie hoeft die nieuwsgierigheid natuurlijk niet te bevredigen.
      Ik zou dus ook niet weten waarom ze er wel iets over zouden zeggen.

      @Patrace Ik wil alleen maar weten waarom blijkbaar journalisten en andere mensen ernaar blijven vragen bij de familie, de reden waarom elke keer weer één van hen dit soort statements schijnt te moeten maken.
      Persoonlijk heb ik helemaal niets met Schumachers, noch met de beweegredenen die ze hebben.

      Ik zie een parallel met 'veiligheid'. Trek die troefkaart en je snoert oppositie de mond. Geldt ook voor het woord privacy. Als de familie destijds een eerlijk beeld had geschetst, hadden honderden miljoenen fans kunnen rouwen en het een plekje kunnen geven. Maar bovenal een hoop stom van de ketel gehaald. En daar was echt geen privacy mee geschonden - tenzij de persoon zich geneert voor zijn toestand en 't de buitenwereld absoluut niet wil laten weten.
      In plaats daarvan zagen we een verkramptheid van inmiddels legendarische proporties. En uiteindelijk bleek die ook nog pointless. Immers dat 'eerlijke beeld' is er uiteindelijk toch wel gekomen door alle snippers informatie van de afgelopen jaren. Moeten we nu in koor roepen: "Och, och wat erg, de privacy is alsnog geschonden!" Ik dacht het niet. Je snapt de overwegingen, maar het had allemaal wat losser gekund.
      Kunnen we het verhaal nu afsluiten? Ik wou dat het zo was, maar zelfs tot op vandaag zijn er nog allerlei (in mijn ogen gerechtvaardigde) vragen die spastisch met de zemenlap privacy van tafel worden geveegd. Bijvoorbeeld: waarom heeft men altijd zo weinig intimi toegelaten? Zijn die er nooit geweest, en dus nu ook niet? Geeft dergelijk bezoek hem geen vreugde? Herkent ie deze mensen niet meer?
      Wat beklijft is het beeld van Michael de kluizenaar. We moeten maar aannemen dat dat het beste voor hem is.

    Ralf zal wel op zijn kl*ten hebben gehad van zijn schoonzus over de uitspraak die hij afgelopen dagen in de media liet optekenen over de toestand van Michael.

    Broer Ralf vraagt aandacht via de media, om aan te geven hoe erg hij het vindt dat er nog steeds veel aandacht voor zijn broer Michael is. Zucht, blijf dan zelf ook uit de media en negeer alle aandacht die je niet wil.
