Alpine en Mercedes maken duidelijke afspraken over Mick Schumacher

Mick Schumacher vervult volgend jaar een dubbelrol in de racerij. De Duitser is namelijk niet alleen de reservecoureur van Mercedes, hij gaat ook voor Alpine rijden in het World Endurance Championship. Beide teams hebben duidelijke afspraken gemaakt over de beschikbaarheid van Schumacher.

Nadat Schumacher eind 2022 geen nieuw contract kreeg bij het team van Haas, kreeg hij een nieuwe baan aangeboden door Mercedes. De Duitser werd de nieuwe reservecoureur en hij stond elk weekend stand-by om in te vallen als er iets zou zijn met George Russell of Lewis Hamilton. In 2024 wilde Schumacher weer racen, maar in de Formule 1 was er geen stoeltje meer vrij. Gelukkig bood het Hypercar-team van Alpine uitkomst.

Schumacher staat in 2024 dus onder contract bij twee fabrieksteams. Dat kan voor problemen zorgen als de kalenders van de twee klassen elkaar overlopen. Mercedes en Alpine hebben hier dan ook een duidelijke afspraak overgemaakt. Alpine-kopstuk Bruno Famin deelt de afspraken in een interview met DailySportsCar: "Het contract is duidelijk. Onze overeenkomst met Mick is ook heel duidelijk. Zodra hij de kans krijgt om in de Formule 1 te rijden als vervanger van Lewis Hamilton of George Russell, dan gaat hij naar de Formule 1 toe."

Dus als Lewis of lompe George nycks overkomt, zit er voor Mick dus nycks anders op dan alleen maar een bull WEC races rijden.
