Situatie Schumi valt Vettel zwaar: "Ik mis gewoon mijn vriend"

Vrijdag was het exact tien jaar geleden dat zevenvoudig kampioen Michael Schumacher zwaar hersenletsel opliep na een ski-ongeluk. De Duitser leeft nog, maar over zijn huidige toestand is weinig bekend. Landgenoot en voormalig F1-coureur Sebastian Vettel had een speciale band met hem. Het valt de viervoudig kampioen zwaar wat Der Rekordmeister is overkomen.

''Het is natuurlijk erg, erg moeilijk'', begint de oud-coureur van onder andere Red Bull en Ferrari tegen F1RulesMedia. "Ik kan het niet echt accepteren, maar accepteer wel dat hij doorvecht en zich niet goed voelt. Ik wens hem natuurlijk het allerbeste. Het blijft een onderwerp dat blijft terugkomen. Het is een privé-aangelegenheid. Ik denk veel aam hem."

Het eerste waar Vettel aan denkt is het laatste en bijzondere gesprek met Schumacher. "Ik vertelde hem dat ik vader zou worden. Ik waardeerde het enorm hoe onze relatie alsmaar sterker werd voor het ongeval."

"We gingen elkaar steeds beter leren kennen. Racen was niet meer het belangrijkste wat we gemeen hadden. Het ging meer over het leven in het algemeen, over het leven rondom het racen. Ik mis gewoon mijn vriend."

"Hij zou in de afgelopen jaren een belangrijke rol gespeeld kunnen hebben op vragen waarmee ik zat. Hij zou zeker antwoorden hebben of kunnen inspireren. Dat mis ik natuurlijk."

Nee dat is niet waar. Er is zeker nog wel iets over van de entiteit die hij is. Hij is alleen nu zo beperkt in wat hij nog met dat lichaam kan dat hij heel ver weg is. De Schumacher zoals wij en de wereld hem kende is de facto overleden.
Wat er nog van over is is slechts een omhulsel met een hartslag en bloeddruk maar verders niets meer.

Hij leeft nog steeds dus hij zit nog gevangen in dit lichaam waar hij waarschijnlijk inderdaad weinig meer mee kan. Maar hij leeft dus hij is er nog steeds ergens achter die beperking. Iemand die zwaar geestelijk en lichamelijk gehandicapt is leeft toch ook nog steeds? Daaronder al die beperkingen schuilt per definitie nog liefde, dat is niet ineens weg en daarmee heeft iemand nog altijd waarde.
  Tenzij je niet begrijpt waar ik het over heb natuurlijk, dan houdt alles op.
