Sauber verwacht pas in 2027 op oorlogssterkte te zijn

Bij het team van Sauber wordt er hard gewerkt aan de nabije toekomst. De Zwitserse renstal wordt in 2026 het fabrieksteam van Audi en daarvoor moet er nog heel erg veel gaan gebeuren. James Key is goudeerlijk over dit proces en hij denkt dat alles pas in 2027 helemaal rond is.

Sauber staat dit jaar en volgend jaar op de grid onder de naam Stake F1 Team. De Zwitserse renstal focust zich op de achtergrond ook op het grotere plaatje. Vanaf 2026 gaan ze immers in zee met Audi. De Duitse autogigant zal de motoren gaan bouwen, terwijl Sauber zich meer zal richten op het chassis. Intern zal er ook veel gaan veranderen, er wordt veel nieuw personeel aangetrokken en er wordt het één en ander veranderd aan de fabriek.

Technisch directeur James Key stelt dat het team zich realistisch op moet stellen. De Sauber-topman is van mening dat men één jaar na het aantreden van Audi pas echt op oorlogssterkte is. In gesprek met Motorsport.com legt Key de situatie uit: "Ik denk niet dat we voor 2027 alles hebben afgerond, want er is nog veel werk te doen. Maar richting 2026 zullen we wel veel beter in vorm zijn. Dat gaat ons de mogelijkheid bieden om een stap vooruit te gaan zetten."

      Herinner me ook nog hun debuut met Lehto en Wendlinger illmor motoren (mercedes eingelijk), was een zeer mooie bolide die zwarte sauber.

      Dit gaat over 2027 en niet over 2029. Daarbij willen zij in 2029 de positie zijn om voor de overwinning te strijden. Niet dat zij al op overwinningen rekenen.
