Bottas ziet Audi F1-project als volgende kans op succes

Als je Valtteri Bottas volgt op sociale media is de Fin met van alles bezig, zoals het fabriceren van zijn eigen gin. Toch blijft de Formule 1 het allerbelangrijkste voor de Fin en hoopt - als Sauber officieel wordt omgedoopt tot fabrieksteam van Audi - onderdeel te blijven bij de renstal in de jacht op eremetaal. "Ik heb nog steeds honger om uiteindelijk weer op het podium te staan. Het Audi-project zou de volgende kans kunnen zijn", zei hij tegen Motorsport.com.

Of Bottas daadwerkelijk een van de rijders wordt van Audi is afwachten. Gesprekken met hem over zijn in de rol voor de toekomst is nog niet gesproken. "Voor zover ik het begrijp, zullen ze begin dit jaar beslissingen nemen over de komende jaren. Dus nog niet. Ik ga die discussies in het eerste kwartaal van [dit] jaar voeren."

Namen zoals Carlos Sainz en Nico Hulkenberg worden al in verband gebracht met het Duitse automerk. De kans bestaat dus ook dat Bottas naast de pot pist. "Deel uitmaken van Audi zou mijn eerste prioriteit en voorkeur zijn. Maar als dat om de een of andere reden niet het geval is, dan zou ik absoluut met andere teams praten."

Formule 1 kan Bottas absoluut dus nog niet los laten. "Ik wil erbij zijn omdat ik het gevoel heb dat ik nog een aantal onafgemaakte dingen heb in deze sport."
