Werkzaamheden in Monza zijn van start gegaan

Het circuit van Monza wordt gezien als een parel van de Formule 1-kalender. Toch staat de race onder druk omdat de faciliteiten flink verouderd zijn. Formule 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali waarschuwde eerder al voor de toekomst en in Monza zijn ze nu dan ook begonnen met de werkzaamheden.

Domenicali stelde eerder al dat het belangrijk was om de faciliteiten te verbeteren, omdat er anders misschien geen nieuw contract volgt. In Monza zijn ze nu begonnen met de werkzaamheden. Onder toeziend oog onder meer de Italiaanse vicepremier Matteo Salvini ging de verbouwing van start. Het gehele circuit wordt opnieuw geasfalteerd, er komt een nieuwe onderdoorgang en de pitstraat en de tribunes worden aangepakt. Het is de verwachting dat de werkzaamheden in juni zijn afgerond.

De meningen zijn verdeeld over dit iconisch circuit, maar het is 'n old-skool circuit dat zeker moet blijven op de agenda.

En misschien, heel misschien kunnen ze gelijk Stefano Domenicali onder het asfalt smeren..
