McLaren focust zich niet op resultaten maar verbeteringen

Het team van McLaren wordt voor aankomend seizoen gezien als één van de grootste uitdagers van Red Bull Racing. Bij de Britse renstal blijven ze echter met beide benen op de grond staan. Teambaas Andrea Stella denkt niet aan prestaties, maar aan ontwikkelingen.

McLaren zette in 2023 grote stappen. De Britse renstal begon het seizoen op een hopeloze manier, ze hadden een slechte auto en ze vochten slechts om de kruimels. Na een aantal grote updates vonden McLaren-coureurs Lando Norris en Oscar Piastri zich terug aan de voorkant van het veld. Ze vochten mee om de podiumplekken en ze waren uiteindelijk één van de grootste uitdagers van koploper Red Bull.

McLaren-teambaas Andrea Stella wil voor aankomend seizoen geen hoge ambities uitspreken. Stella wil het anders aan gaan pakken en dit legt hij uit aan Motorsport.com: "Ik ga het niet hebben over hoe we tweede, eerste of derde willen worden. Dat is niet de taal die we bij McLaren gebruiken, daar hebben we het gewoon niet over. Resultaten spreken voor zich. Waar we wel over willen praten, is wat we willen doen op het gebied van aerodynamische ontwikkeling, mechanische ontwikkeling en hoe we de interactie met de banden kunnen verbeteren. Hoe leveren we onze projecten af? Hoe zorgen we dat we opleveren wat we willen? Daar moeten we ons op focussen."
