Australische organisatie grijpt in na bijna-catastrofe in 2023

Op 24 maart wordt de Australische Grand Prix weer verreden. De tribunes rondom het circuit van Albert Park in Melbourne zullen weer propvol zitten, maar de fans zullen genoegen moeten nemen met iets minder vrijheden. De organisatie heeft ingegrepen na de taferelen van vorig jaar.

De Australische Grand Prix kende in 2022 een chaotisch einde. Na twee rode vlaggen moesten de coureurs alleen nog de laatste raceronde en de uitloopronde rijden achter de Safety Car. Door alle chaos ging het ook mis rondom het circuit, want de fans stonden al klaar om de baan te betreden. Achter de hekken stonden de fans te dringen en een aantal van hen stonden al in het gras. Tijdens de uitloopronde stonden een aantal fans al op de baan.

Het zorgde voor levensgevaarlijke situaties en de FIA opende direct een onderzoek naar de gebeurtenissen in Melbourne. De veiligheidsprotocollen waren niet goed gevolgd en een catastrofe werd op het nippertje voorkomen. De organisatie heeft nu ingegrepen voor de komende race. De fans met een ticket hebben te horen gekregen dat ze na de finish de baan niet mogen betreden. Dit geldt in ieder geval voor de aanstaande editie van de race, of het in de komende jaren wel mag, wordt nog onderzocht.
