FIA laat velgen aanpassen om gevaarlijke situaties te voorkomen

Autosportfederatie FIA heeft ook dit jaar weer een aantal zaken laten veranderen met het oog op de veiligheid. Na een aantal incidenten in de voorgaande jaren heeft men besloten om een belangrijk onderdeel aan te passen. De velgen zijn voor dit jaar namelijk aangepast.

In de voorgaande jaren vlogen de banden nog wel eens van de velgen af bij crashes. Dit kan voor gevaarlijke situaties zorgen. Een goed voorbeeld hiervan is de start van de Braziliaanse Grand Prix van vorig jaar. De startcrash op het circuit van Interlagos was de directe aanleiding voor de FIA om velgenleverancier BBS de opdracht te geven om de velgen te verstevigen. In Brazilië zorgde de losgeslagen band van Alexander Albon er immers voor dat Daniel Ricciardo's auto schade opliep.

In Interlagos bleef het bij de schade aan de auto van Ricciardo, maar de FIA wil voorkomen dat het in de toekomst echt mis gaat. Daarom hebben ze velgenleverancier BBS gevraagd om het onderdeel te verstevigen. De fabrikant heeft de opdracht met beide handen aangepakt en ze zijn erin geslaagd om de velgen te verstevigen. Dit moet ervoor zorgen dat de banden minder snel losschieten van de velg tijdens een crash. Dit zorgt er wel voor dat de velgen er aankomend jaar iets anders uit gaan zien.
