Formule 1 hint op Grand Prix in Chicago

De Formule 1 is in de afgelopen jaren flink populairder geworden. Vooral in de Verenigde Staten zijn er veel fans bijgekomen en daar heeft de FOM slim op gereageerd. Momenteel staan er drie Grands Prix op Amerikaans grondgebied op het programma en nu zijn er ook aanwijzingen voor een vierde race.

Momenteel worden er Grands Prix georganiseerd in Austin, Miami en Las Vegas. Alleen in Austin wordt er gereden op een permanent circuit, in de andere twee steden heeft men gekozen voor opvallende stratencircuits. In Miami wordt er gereden op een circuit rondom het Hard Rock Stadium, terwijl er in Las Vegas wordt gereden op een circuit midden in het centrum van de gokstad.

Chicago

De keuze voor ambitieuze stratencircuits viel niet even goed bij iedereen. Toch lijkt het er nu op dat de Formule 1 weer interesse heeft getoond in een race in een andere Amerikaanse miljoenenstad. Formule 1-eigenaar Liberty Media heeft namelijk nieuwe handelsmerken laten registreren voor een Grand Prix van Chicago. Dit wil overigens niet zeggen dat er zal worden gereden in Chicago, maar het toont wel aan dat er wordt gedacht aan de stad in de staat Illinois.

NASCAR

Het is niet vreemd dat er wordt gedacht aan Chicago. De stad ligt immers in de buurt van een andere grote stad: Detroit. In deze stad zijn er veel grote autobedrijven gevestigd waaronder Ford. Ford betreedt in 2026 de Formule 1 als partner van het team van Red Bull Racing. Sinds vorig jaar racet de NASCAR ook in Chicago op een stratencircuit, deze baan voldoet echter niet aan de standaarden voor de Formule 1.

En dan hoop ik dat er nog 'n straten-race komt in Londen, New York, Los Angeles, Berlijn, Zwolle, Etten-Leur, Parijs, Brussel, Wenen, Rome, Oslo en Stockholm.

  Ik heb net het handelsmerken laten registreren voor de Formule1 GP van Schubbekutteveen dus laat Liberty maar komen dat gaat ze veel geld kosten

Op een gegeven moment forceerd Liberty lijkt mij toch een staking bij de coureurs, dan wel de teams...

Ik hoop toch niet dat coureurs en monteurs zitten te wachten op 10 stratencircuits. Of deze nou ter vervanging komen van of nog boven de huidige 24 komen... ik verwacht toch echt dat de teams dezelfde racegedachte hebben als de fans en ergens een grens trekken.
