Krack verwacht meer strijd, maar weinig veranderingen

Het nieuwe Formule 1-seizoen gaat over een maand van start, maar nog niemand weet hoe de slagvolgorde eruit zal zien. Red Bull Racing wordt gezien als de titelfavoriet, zo stelt ook Mike Krack. De Aston Martin-teambaas verwacht weinig verschuivingen, maar hij denkt wel dat het veld dichterbij elkaar gaat komen.

Red Bull Racing was afgelopen jaar oppermachtig in de Formule 1. De Oostenrijkse renstal won slechts één Grand Prix niet en ze werden met speels gemak constructeurskampioen en wereldkampioen. Achter Red Bull was het vorig jaar zeer close, vrijwel elk weekend lagen de verhoudingen anders. In de kwalificaties waren de verschillen zeer klein en ook Red Bull werd toen uitgedaagd door meerdere teams.

Dichterbij elkaar

Het team van Aston Martin probeerde Red Bull ook meerdere keren uit te dagen. Aangezien de regels amper veranderen, verwacht teambaas Mike Krack dat de rangorde hetzelfde blijft. Hij spreekt zich uit bij Autosport: "Als je zo'n goede auto hebt als Red Bull, dan zullen veel mensen voor die richting gaan kiezen. Maar we hebben ook gehoord dat Ferrari en Mercedes veel gaan veranderen aan hun auto. Daar zijn we heel benieuwd naar. Normaal gesproken is het zo dat als de regels stabiel blijven, het veld dichterbij elkaar komt."

Verrassing

Krack stelt dat het nu vooral belangrijk is om de focus te leggen op de kleine details. De Aston Martin-teambaas verwacht namelijk dat men op dat punt het verschil kan gaan maken. Krack denkt overigens niet dat een aantal teams hele grote stappen gaan zetten: "De kleine verschillen in de kwalificaties zullen alleen maar kleiner worden in de komende jaren. Dus om terug te komen op de originele vraag, het zou een verrassing zijn als we heel erg grote veranderingen gaan zien."
